Don't people usually buy the product they think is better?

Is THAT why people buy more Daewoos than Mercedes?

People buy what they can afford. All things being equal, I don't think many people would take a cheap Nokia candybar over an iPhone.

well, come on. Price has to factor into "bestness." Would a $100,000,000 phone that had UXVGA display, weighed an ounce, had a 3-D hologram interface and could read your mind be "the best?"

I feel like price is the one thing that shouldn't factor into 'best', if we're speaking from a qualitative standpoint. But that's just me. If we're discussing 'which device is the best deal', then that's a different story.

apple better let tomtom background. How annoying would that be to lose my navi to send a text, take a call, etc. They should do it on case by case but then other devs will be angry i would assume. I dunno i can deal w/o pandora backgrounding but my navi would have to if i am going to buy it.

I wouldn't even try. This guy is like talking to a dog. No ability comprehend the simplest things, S4B, only barks at you.

Perhaps if you could remove yourself from Steve Jobs genitals, you could get a clear picture.

Obviously you have no understanding of economics. Nor do you understand basic mathematical statistics. Please enroll yourself in a community college and then you might do better.

Honestly, of all the fanboys I have ever seen, this guy is right up on top of Apple's orifices.

Please learn to comprehend. Apple's growth rate outstrips everyone else in the market. I think that speaks volumes.

Until they surpass in market volume, it means absolutely nothing.

Well, the OP was all about "why doesn't apple add this? (in order to be the best)".

If the best ignores price, then my answer is "because apple has no interest in being the best. apple wants to make the most profit." Which means apple wants to sell the most phones it can at the highest margins it can. Which means it has to keep costs down, while making a compelling enough device that people are willing to pay a premium for it.

What's the upgrade price?

You really don't understand this? Really?

MOAR SOLD ≠ BETTER

It means that if things continue at this pace they will surpass RIM in a couple of years. Which means that they're doing just fine.

Are you the kind of guy who would take his lottery winnings in a smaller lump sum rather than doled out in annual payments because 'there's more money that way'?

Thanks for proving my point.

Self-ownage much?

So, hypothetically, if we had a product available at one store, and another available at 100 stores, and the product available in only one place sold 75% as many as the product available at many, you'd still argue that the latter product is clearly more desirable?

apple will not keep growing at this pace. unless they can keep fooling the public. oh wait..
:)

Well, objectively, they're only getting closer and closer to matching the BlackBerry from a business perspective, and RIM has done little to distance themselves in the past couple of years. Unless they pull a rabbit out of their hats sometime soon, I imagine that businesses will eventually be left with very few reasons to disallow iPhones corporately.

Here are some pictures of my tablet which has a 800x480 screen but is a little bigger at 4.1 inches. The higher resolution is really helpful when viewing webpages since you don't have to scroll on a majority of them and text is very crisp.

No one is denying that higher resolution is better. And if "best" means "it has everything under the sun regardless of price, practicality of software support, etc." then fine.

But it's not something most people need (or, for that matter, would even notice), so the price increase, software effort, etc. wouldn't be justified. It would require more expensive screens, would slow down graphics, would probably impact battery life, would require massive software support so that existing 3rd party apps would fill the screen, buttons would scale, etc.

iPhones are set up with apps that only run one at a time to keep things clean and functioning. Multitasking on a cell phone with tons of apps open is not a good idea, as someone has already stated on this thread. Also, this allow a virtually unlimited amount of apps to be loaded on an iPhone. It keeps the iPhone as reliable a machine as possible, rarely crashing and rarely missing a call. It works.

I'd actually rather see a 640 x 360 screen. 16:9 at 1/2 720p. That would be sweet. Or at least whatever size, 16:9 format.

I don't get the fascination with multitasking. I'd rather have a cell phone do one task really fast, really well, and with really low battery consumption. I could see a case for some background apps, and I think Apple is working on that, but that should be a very small foot print daemon just to notify w/ option to launch.

Then don't multitask w/a ton of apps open. Problem solved. Same principle as multitasking on a computer. Humanity survived when multitasking was new to desktop computers and I think humanity will survive multitasking on mobile devices.;)

Lethal

EDIT:

Multitasking only consumes more battery life if you are, well, multitasking. You can run a single app to get the most speed and the most battery life out of the phone or you can choose to run multiple apps and sacrifice some amount of speed and battery life (how much obviously depends on what apps you are running concurrently).

Problem not solved, you don't have to rely on your computer for important phone calls, texts. I guess in the future, I can see Apple figuring out a way to not compromise reliability, still allow for virtually unlimited amount of apps, and include multitasking, but I really don't care at all. There will always be other functions that people will complain about not having, then the next generation will have it, though I don't see Apple changing this one for a long time.

Not Lethal.
