Financial Times echos much of what was reported on the Wall Street Journal about Apple hoping to launch a subscription television service in 2010. CBS and Disney are currently believed to be closest to agreeing to a distribution deal with Apple. The content is expected to be part of the "entertainment and news" services that Apple may offer on their tablet computer.

FT also makes some unsourced claims that the Apple Tablet may be launching imminently. According to the publication "Apple is preparing an announcement next month that many anticipate will be the official unveiling of its tablet." The magazine may be referencing an iLounge report from September who claimed the Apple Tablet would be announced "on or before January 19, 2010" for release in May or June. Wall Street analysts believe mass production of the tablet could begin as early as February.

Since they are not planning on participating in Macworld or CES, an Apple announcement would likely come in the form of a standalone media event -- if these plans are indeed true. According to the original iLounge article, Apple was planning on leveraging the hype between announcement and launch much like the original iPhone release.

Way to go Apple - I want one, please. A tablet would be nice to have early in the New Year.

7" or 10" or both? OSX or iPhone OS?

size. perhaps both

OS. phone. I"ll bet money on it. this device seems to be the answer to the netbook (with other 'devices') and the phone os covers more of the likely functions. plus already handles both wi-fi and cell data. plus multi-touch/touchscreen

as for the early announcment. it does make some sense. content with be a big factor in this thing taking off. and if they tip off content providers it will get out. this way the rumors are cut off. the buzz can build and content is likely to be ready in larger amounts.

my only hope is that any 3g is optional and unlocked and the video is 720. that can it can use my apps I bought for my phone.

Am I the only person getting a little sick of the Tablet rumors?
I think Apple has taken the anticipation a little too far. People must slowly be losing interest. I know I am.

Hurry up Apple, show us what you have been working on!

Apple has not said anything about the tablet as of yet. How could they have taken the anticipation a little too far?

What I was thinking, an iPhone emulator (unless it's running full blown OSX on an arm chip (which would really be horrifically slow tbh), would be nonsensical, the emulator would drain battery and wouldn't provide good enough performance, where as OSX native on an arm wouldn't run fast enough and be horrifically laggy, and all OSX apps would have to be re-wrote once again for the ARM processors...

Something to also consider is at both sizes with a stand it could make a great kitchen comp similar to the hp touchsmart.

OS X Touch emulated on mac os would run fine - most apps spend their time executing cocoa function, which would be native libraries. And, of course, re-compiling targeting x86 (assuming the tablet is x86) would result in no performance hit, and you can bet everyone will be willing to do it. (Heck, they;d want to do it to add support for the bigger screen, etc., anyway).

Doubtful the version of OS X running on the tablet will be based on x86. There's no point in buying a company that produced low-power CPUs (PA Semi) only to then buy Intel's Atom processors.

Having spent 10 years in the microprocessor design business, I seriously doubt the pa semi guys have anything ready yet (they had to start from scratch, after all, since they had been working on PPC). But it does suggest the tablet will use ARM, since the pa semi guys are surely working on ARM, not x86, and they'll want to transition to PA Semi for tablet v2.0.

Excellent. We should have a crippled version available in New Zealand by 2012. Right before the world ends. How apt.
