87% of iPhone 4S Owners Use Siri Each Month

I use Siri all the time. I don't even count, the number would be really high. Mostly because I make a lot of calls and I look for contacts etc via Siri. Love it!!

I've never seen anyone use Siri for anything other than novelty, and I have dozens upon dozens of friends with iPhones.

Literally dozens upon dozens? Like a number greater than 24? Actually even that would just be 2 dozen, and "dozens and dozens" sounds a lot higher than that.

It's gotta be over 48 then! :D

Does it bother anyone else that Siri was billed as a "Beta"?

I feel like Apple (and other companies) are using the term as a get-out-of-jail-free card when they're called out for half-assing it.
I say this, because it's been what, 4-5 months now since the phone came out, yet there have been no changes whatsoever in features.
The only things changed are in addition of languages.

Anyway, I do like Siri, but I really bought it on the hopes there'd be increased functionality added over time. I mean, that was the whole sell of it being processed-in-the-cloud, right? The fact that they could constantly update and tweak it from the server farms, without needing new hardware.

The ironic thing is that before Apple purchased Siri, it was more powerful. Anybody else remember that? You could order things, make reservations, check flights, buy movie tickets, all kinds of stuff.

:apple: approves.

When you use Siri, the things you say will be recorded and sent to Apple to process your requests. Your device will also send Apple other information, such as your first name and nickname; the names, nicknames, and relationship with you (e.g., “my dad”) of your address book contacts; and song names in your collection (collectively, your “User Data”). All of this data is used to help Siri understand you better and recognize what you say. It is not linked to other data that Apple may have from your use of other Apple services. By using Siri, you agree and consent to Apple’s and its subsidiaries’ and agents’ transmission, collection, maintenance, processing, and use of this information, including your voice input and User Data, to provide and improve Siri and other Apple products and services.

that's a very representative figure for US residents... but I am sure it is way biased, as it's not even that great in other parts of the world and doesn't even support enormously spoken languages as spanish or chinesse

No way.

Only time I ever use it is for a laugh or if I hold down on the button by accident.

It's a gimmick. Would be good on Ipad but not Iphone.

You may not like it but to call it a gimmick is a bit out there.

I use Siri a few times a month and am happy with it.

I just think it's great that Apple choose to remind my kids that my birthday is on 19th May in all their iPhone advertising. I bet they still forget!!

I've got it switched off. The accuracy was so bad, possibly due to my accent, that I gave up.

Finding the same with my iPad using the speech recognition. Takes me more time going over what it has typed and correcting all the mistakes than it would just typing it in the first place.

I use Siri on a weekly basis. It's perfect when you remember to do something and you're in the car... just click the button and tell the phone to create the reminder...

Or when I want to set an alarm, it's much quicker then entering the time manually.

Dozens of dozens = 12 of 12

12 x 12 = 144

He must have 144 friends with iPhones that he's never seen use Siri.

On a serious note, I've never seen anyone with an iPhone use Siri either, and I know 'dozens of dozens' of people with iPhones as well.. I think everyone knows a lot of people with iPhones though, the damn thing is ridiculously popular.

Although the numbers say 87%, that doesn't mean that people are actually using it. For example, my girlfriend and even I sometimes hold the Home button for too long while in fact trying to really fast double-press it and guess what? Yeps, SIRI pops up... Just because people access it ( surely many by accident ), it doesn't mean that it's also useful to 87% of the people.

That figure of 87% is nonsense

I have four members of my family with an iPhone 4S other than myself and none of us use Siri, ever. That's 100% non-use.

Anybody I've spoken to with an iPhone (quite a few on the 24th outside the Apple store) says "Yes, it's a great gimmick, but it isn't of any practical use and doesn't really work". You can't voice-dial any more, most of the time it fails to recognise plain English (no accent) and since in the UK it has no business directory, all it does, when it does work, is refer you to a Google search. Hopeless.

This survey clearly only talked to a small group of people who had recently purchased, almost certainly in the US, and were still playing "where can I dispose of a body?".... (stupid questions for amusing answers).

I'm another one who'd prefer to have Siri on the iPad rather than the iPhone. I feel too self-conscious using it out and about on the iPhone, particularly since I usually end up having to repeat the same instructions time and again due to patchy internet access. Whereas at home, with perfect internet connectivity through my iPad, Siri might actually be useful and usable. Link it into Apple's Remote app, and that would be fantastic.

I would use the feature more often if it friggin' worked on sprint. "sorry im having trouble connecting to the network"

This is entirely expected. Siri is truly revolutionary technology improving the lives of tens of millions of people around the world. I use Siri hundreds of times a day to setup alarms, create reminders, lists, dictate emails, and notes, and get rapid answers to important questions.

Already back from Beijing, Tim?

My most common use of Siri is actually setting reminders and alarms. I occasionally use it for calls or for looking things up, but I never use it in public, so it has not become my main method for doing those things.

I've started to use Siri more... But not in public :-0 :)

Text, phone, reminders, email, alarms, timers, web searches. It's cool but takes a bit of getting used to. I also agree with others that it would be far better on an iPad as your more likely to be sat in the privacy of your own home.

I just can't see me shouting out my business in public. And there's still enjoyment in pressing virtual buttons :)

Siri is growing on me.

When I just play around with Siri it works nicely for two or three questions but then responds with "I'm really sorry, but I can't handle any requests right now.". When I really need Siri to work the chance to get that sorry-message is way too high, therefore I choose to just use the GUI to get to my informatio, to dial a number or type my message. It's just not rock-solid. Besides, locations in the Netherlands or any other locations in Europe haven't been added yet. For Apple the main world seems to be just the US, a business sickness many but not all US companies have.

If Apple would be really serious about the world, Siri would work in many more countries. And, the new iPad LTE would be supported in many more countries.

Siri is nothing more than a gimmick outside the US. It might be more valuable for US citizens. Same holds for the iPad LTE. What's the big gain for the new iPad for people outside the US? Just the screen - that's not enough to upgrade from the iPad 2. Worse, I currently recommend people to buy the iPad 2 16 GB instead of the new iPad to save money. Only when a new one will be able to calibrate the new iPad screen I might reconsider buying it for my photography work.

Why this rant? Apple should become more serious about the world. But why should they? They're the ones winning. But I really despise one characteristic in a company, that's being arrogant.

couldn't agree more. Siri is a bit pointless when there is no location info. I also find it strange that commands like "translate" or "how do I say <word> in <language>" (with language being "French" or another big language) are apparently a big issue for Siri...

so far Siri is a gadget, and not always a very fun one either.

i have two big problems with siri that stop me from using it

1. siri cannot be used with maps in Australia - i.e. can't find addresses which is just a real pain in the butt.
2. when it hears something incorrectly - the time it takes to correct something, I could have done manually by typing. for me i think I'm not speaking clearly or slowly enough each time.

along with those two things - there's not enough you can do with siri, basically call someone, ask for the weather or plan a meeting/function, search something on the internet... calling someone cuts down the time significantly but the others are probably just easier typing it in manually.

i only use it to set my alarm. thats about it. i used it more when i had it jailbroken and siri actually had some features like .. lets say turn off wifi or something. will it ever leave beta or at least add new features? i mean, it took the jb community half a day to add amazing new commands.

her "angry wife" voice is annoying and ill never use it in public, too embarrassing ^^
