please tell us what you do, 1st does the powercable that come with the 9800x2 work with the plug in mac pro ?
and what do you do when you boot into mac os x ?
That card doesnt work in Mac OS.
I know that... I wanted to know how the fan of the 9800GX2 card behaves when the mac pro boots using a second MAC OS COMPATIBLE card. From the 8800GT I know that the fan runs at max when I boot the Mac Pro using the HD2600XT. In other words, does it make sense to have the 9800GX2 in the Mac Pro just for Bootcamp???
yeah well if your a REAL gamer like me who wants the latest games on his mac pro .. then you go get it
A lot of people will just reply: Go get a PC
PLEASE someone that HAS the card PLEASE tell me how to make it work (especialy the powercables) and what to do when booting into mac os x !
Best scenario: You have to order the power cable that people use for the 8800GT (from ATI or welovemacs.com) and the card does not bother you too much when you use Mac OS X.
Worst scenario: You need "custom-made" power cables and may even have problems due to too much power consumption - depending on the PCIe setup in your Mac. Also the fan might run at full speed and drive you crazy ... that's what happened when I tried to use a PC 8800GT before people were able to flash it.
I think the next days will tell us if people report their experience with the card ...
In the old mac pro it was the ATI card that was better, in the current one, Nvidia, in the new one it will likely be another ATI card.I think the next NVIDIA card Apple will add is the 9800GT, they tend to stick those models, ye?
I read that the 9800x2 will give a 30% boost compared to the ultra.
The 9800GX2 beats the 3870X2 by a bit (in fact due to the shoddy drivers, it gains a lower 3dmark score atm), and the 9800GX2 is pathetically overpriced. The 3870X2 is the way to go for now.

then what the hell do you do when you work in mac os x ?
btw does the standard "powercable" for the 9800 work with mac pro ? :S PLEASE tell me so I could get one to !![]()
then i use either the hd2600xt or my modded 8800 gt.
But you can use the standard power cable that comes from the machine if you use the power source for second DVD slot by buying a couple y adapters at best buy or whatever. But i got the 2 power cables from the ati website instead. they were about $13.00 each.
