The 8GB has been an option in the larger European markets, Australia, and China for around six months, but 16GB and 32GB capacities were still available. Today's options, globally, are a) buy the 8GB or b) buy a different model. The 5C 8gb has been sold for a long time. Just not in the US. Nothing new to see.

And the 4 before that, and the 3GS before that, and the 3G before that. But between the 3G and the 5c we've travelled from a 2MP camera to an 8MP camera with HD video, and both iOS and apps have grown in size. I think there'll be a lot of people buying the 8GB 5c who have absolutely no idea of the constraints the storage will place upon them.Like the 4S before it.

Don't think they'll care. Not everybody needs to have 5000 songs on their phones and 58 apps.
Heck, to be honest I probably use a max of 3-4 apps daily and regularly.
That's fine. Even if you're using it minimally - as updates become larger, it eats up more space. So currently with iOS 8 it'll probably have 4-3.7GB left. With 9 probably even less and with 10 even less. It was released when iOS 7 was current so if we go by pattern it should be supported for 3 more major iOS released.
