For those calling the iPhone crowd whiners...

Let us know how you feel when Apple cuts the price of an iMac $600.00 a few weeks after you bought it.

That's a good point. Do you (or anyone) know what email address it should be sent to? I want to make sure that my opinion will be heard and not end up in some black hole somewhere. Thanks

Yeah write something like this

"Dear Apple, we are all whinging idiots"

Why don't you go smash you're iphone in revenge.. to prove your point... Oh wait, You already agreed to pay X for it, and now you don't know Y

HA! :D

There are victims here, and there are those who choose to take RESPONSIBILITY for their actions.

Which are you, grasshopper?

A price drop of 30% in two months means that they had huge profit margins to begin with.

Let's not put the cart before the horse. Where are the facts to support your assertion? Have you ever heard of Economies of Scale? What if it so happens that components for the iPhone (flash memory, glass, touch capacitors), have gotten drastically cheaper driven by the high demand for the iPhone itself?

I'd say its idiotic to argue from without, except I'd be a hypocrit. Thats just my theory.

(Are we forgetting that a couple years ago (not even), you'd have to come across a desperate crackhead to get a 1GB flash drive for under $150. 'Til apple started using flash memory on a huge scale in nanos and shuffles)

I'll look but we are all entitled to one year of support, two with AppleCare, perhaps calling would be just as effective or they could provide an email address.

Earnings call - maybe some credit for early adopters?

Wasn't there something in the earnings call about developments costing significant bottom line cash in the upcoming quarter?

That said, if they'd planned it, they'd talk about it straight away rather than look like being bounced into it by customer anger.

But then, on the other hand, it's a big company that likes to keep secrets internally, so maybe something will come tomorrow and it's already been budgeted for?

Just a thought.

Apply new knowledge

My iphone dropped 33% in less than two months. I am looking at that iMac switch with a new painful knowlegde base. I am putting my sore ass back on the fence looking for Leopard and possible price drops.

Thinking out loud... I'm thinking the newly-priced iPhone and the new iPod Touch must be the "low margin product transition" that Apple warned of. They are accepting thin profits to get this multitouch stuff out there fast and in a big way.

It already is a PR disaster. Just what exactly will Apple do to correct it is the real question.

They'll probably release amazing new products at amazing price points, which will gain far more press than the initial emotions of people bought before a price drop.

And they'll probably be fighting off happy customers with a pointy stick. Only some tiny fraction of today's angry hysteria will remain in two days. Resignation will set in, and the "disaster" will be merely a tempest in a teacup. Which is still upsetting for the people in the teacup--I DO sympathize!

Right idea, wrong execution...

I absolutely see why Apple decided to drop the price. Given the new products and their pricing, they needed to keep their iPhone competitive. It was probably under pressure from ATT to keep them selling. However, I do not understand why they did not keep the price the same and offer a $200 rebate from ATT. How did they miss this one? They could have kept their retail sales numbers up and sold just as many phones. There is still time to pull this one back, Apple. You can even save face with the early adopters by offering them rebates through ATT. How did you let this one slip by, Steve?

RIP Early Adopting

I'm looking forward to all the innovative goodness we'll see in the following months, but count me out when the are released. I won't be taking a personal day off of work to wait in the heat for the privilege of beta-testing your products. Your best consumers (the ones who bought it on day 1) won't be there lining up, feeding into the hype machine that have fueled your recent success. Next time I'll wait like the masses....

Enjoy no lines for the next product launch. I'm through with being a walking advertisement for a company that couldn't give a damn.

You really think Apple just decided this recently? Please. That is just plain naive. I LOVE Apple, but the fact that this happened so soon proves that they had this price drop planned before the launch. Which means they f'd us in the a.

How does that follow? It takes one meeting lasting 5 minutes to decide this. What Steve wants, Steve gets. Apple is a bit of an inertial monolith, but quick decisions have come out of them before.

In some ways the endless need of mac fans to whine and complain is a good thing, but its getting a bit much here. Worse, the popular press is catching on to it. While this may work to your advantage in getting your $200, I'm getting sick of the almost daily notices in the mainstream press about Apple being sued by some fool or small collection of fools for some illogical reason. Microsoft, Dell, etc etc all get sued too, but manage to not make the press somehow. And I need not mention how many moves those two have made that clearly screw the consumer. The price of visibility I guess, and the fact that Apple seems to be an easy target for small minded types wanting to bring something or someone down.

Apple is being aggressive, responsive, and for once in their pricing schemes, responsible. They could have skimmed the profit on this for a while, but they chose not to.

Let this be a sign of the new dawn!

This is absolutely incredible news for Apple and the rest of the world the iPhone has yet to roll out to.. The US price may set precedent for the UK/euro ones. :D

Also, I'm happy for you in the US and the price-drop, excellent! Feel a bit sorry for early adopters, but meh.. Not hugely.. You bought it so you obviously thought it was worth it.. It was a new thing for Apple, so I'm not surprised if they hedged their bets with inflated/high prices to begin with. Good job Apple. Probably paid for the R&D, hehe.

If apple gave early adopters $200 refund or $200 would they be able to write the 200 million off?

I think that this huge price drop in 2 months (which btw is unprecedented for an Apple product) will not be soon be forgotten by a lot of people who paid $200 more than they had to. Those people in line, and who bought early are mostly people who have bought many Apple products before. The know from experience that the price doesn't usually drop so fast. Next time, Apple won't be able to rack as many early hight-margin sales because people will remember. Next time, the lines won't be so long.

The other unprecedented factor is that Apple is now playing in the mobile handset market where extremely aggressive pricing strategies are par for the course.

The attention span of a fanboy does not supersede the i-want-it-and-i-want-it-now attitude of a fanboy.

central place for us

Anyone have any feel for whether there is a place on the net right now that would be public and most effective for voicing our interest in some sort of show of good faith? I hear many of us saying that something like free AppleCare, a $50 gift card, or a Leopard upgrade would be a nice token. I suppose the sheer number of posts to this thread is meaningful enough, but if there is another good place to speak out, let us know...

I just talked to the store........The resident apple genius told me "sorry but technology moves forward quickly sir. Not what i wanted to here from an eight dollar an our technology snob. I was having a great apple experience with our new Iphone and new Imac 24 up until that moment.......oh well live and learn. I will wait for 4 months to purchase an apple product from now on.

The big problem with the price drop is there was no announcement of a 16gb iPhone at $599. Had that taken place, then we would all be congratulating Apple on getting an upgrade out so fast.

It was a poor choice on Apple's part or a forced choice.

I love the new prices. Sell more phone, I love mine.

Peace out.

Not the same...

My iphone dropped 33% in less than two months. I am looking at that iMac switch with a new painful knowlegde base. I am putting my sore ass back on the fence looking for Leopard and possible price drops.

Apple has a very consistent pricing structure on products like the iMac. You will see speed bumps, but not price drops. The iPhone is a whole different tract with external agreements (ATT) that influence its decisions. I would not wait to buy an iMac based on its price dropping anytime soon.

Most of you non early iPhone buyers are missing the point.

We are not talking about motorola, and razrs, and cars and whatever other product you can throw in the mix. We are talking about apple products and apple products NEVER drop in price this fast. They rarely drop without a new model and they NEVER drop within two months. Everyone who says we are all a bunch of "wineasses" is a "dumbass". If this was 6 months, i would not say a word, but 2 months is effin soon.

History does not repeat itself but it does mimic. We got hosed, and I hope apple does something about it because they're not the type of company that pulls stunts like this. Dont talk about profits and its all about making money. You don't make money without customers, and I'm not saying i will never buy another apple product because I will, but i will not be another early adopter.

A byproduct of Apple advertising....

There are victims here, and there are those who choose to take RESPONSIBILITY for their actions.

Which are you, grasshopper?

I'm a victim. (Just kidding.) :p

The sense of entitlement is amazing. :apple:
Who forced anyone to open their wallet?
