I am not sure why people who JUST bought it are upset. (By just I mean within the last 14 days)

I called the Apple store in my area.

They told me that with a receipt and within the 14 days of purchase that they would refund the 200 difference. (NOT RETURN) No restocking fee at all.

Anything more than 14 days, and you are out of luck.

Sucks for me too.

I find it hard to believe that Apple won't respond with a gift card / credit.

How is this negative news? Price drops are good. If you bought it before you obviously thought it was worth it's price. I didn't. Tough luck early adopters.

Apple just **** on the faces of those who supported them the most--including myself.
They better pull through with some collateral damage or this is going to be a mighty thorn in my back for some time.

collateral damage
–noun
1. the killing of civilians in a military attack.
2. any damage incidental to an activity.

I'd be happy with just a $100 gift cert for each of the phone I bought. I think Apple needs to do something for us early adopters just to save the backlash from the press.

Yes, it would be nice, and unless we ask for something we are not going to get anything. In other words it does not hurt to ask, and if all of us grousing here would just write one email to customer service instead of replying to the thread, maybe just maybe... :)

Fingers crossed

I don't know what's happened lately but this forum has gone to the crapper. What a bunch of cry babies. Do you people not understand the first thing about manufacturing a product ? obviously not. As production volume increases costs decrease, most companies choose to bank the extra profit. I applaud Apple for having the courage to reduce the price and pass it onto consumers.

As early adopters you always pay a premium. I remember buying my first 4GB compact flash card for almost £450, I just bought another much faster 4GB card for £35.

Over the past two months the cost of 8gb cards have plummeted and can easily account for the $200 price drop of the iPhone.

So stop being a bunch of nancy girls and get over yourself. You obviously thought the iPhone was worth $600 when you bought it. If not why the fark did you buy it ?

Matt

Yes genius we all understand that! We bought the phones knowing there would be a price cut eventually. But not $200 in 2 months. I guess you didn't buy one did you?

How much would you like it to drop? $12?

No I didnt buy one - but I would have done if they had been available in Canada.....and I would have SUCKED it up.

And I would have saved at least 30 minutes a day because of being able to get email and surf while out and about. Also I would have not missed any calls listening to my ipod in the car.

Thats worth $3 a day IMHO.

apple.com has shut down the discussion boards. i guess they aren't liking the backlash from the mac faithful?

acting like children...

Sure, a price drop is inevitable. However, this is a brand new product that millions of people helped make successful. Additionally, a price drop of $200 (1/3 of the price) is almost unheard of for a new product released just a few months ago.

Yeah, I bought mine when it came out, and I was shocked to see the price drop. Personally, I think it is a bit of a slap in the face to the iPhone owners who helped launch this product as a success. Am I gonna sue? No. However, calling people "children" and telling them to "grow up" is childish. Let the people vent their frustration without making it worse by treating them with such disrespect. If you don't agree with the way they feel, either keep it to yourself or express your points with the same manner you would appreciate being addressed.

I assume we're all adults here, let's try to act like it and treat each other accordingly. Please.

I'm sorry because I didn't say anyone needs to grow up or call anyone "children."

I however did say that "people" were acting like crybabies. :p

People are cryin' that this is unprecedented, which is bull.

Intel's fastest CPU is typically overpriced, and it drops by more than $200, usually after a month, let alone two.
The Motorola RAZR dropped by half where I live.
Cars typically vary by thousands from dealer to dealer.

People, you stood in line! You stood in line for a cell phone?!? Obviously you didn't feel it was too expensive. Even if Apple said it would be cheaper in two months, I'll bet you still would have bought it.

If you think $600 is a ripoff now, what changed since yesterday? The product you paid for is the same. So what if other people can buy it for less? Why does that matter to you?

Actually i didn't stand in line... got one on the second day at the apple store.

Why does it matter to me that a month after buying my phone for 600$ that the price drops to 399.00? do you even want me to answer that question???

maybe i will after i pick a few fifties off of my tree in the back...

i understand that early adopters will always pay higher prices... but let us enjoy paying that higher price for longer than a month!

if i were to buy a phone "unsubsidized" phone from any storefront and the price were to drop that drastically within 30 days, they would refund the difference...

i am not complaining here... just coming to the realization that my insatiable need to have something NOW always bites me in the :apple:...

And when an iPhone with more memory comes out i"ll probably rush out and buy that one and give the old (new) one two the wife... then complain when the priced is dropped on that one as well...

And how much does the cost of a car drop when you drive it off the lot? No one complains about that compared to this degree of, well, whining.

Poor example... the cost of an iphone drops the second you leave with it as well... the value of that particular one that you purchased that is. We are talking about (in your example) all of the other cars in the lot. How would you feel if you bought a car for $35,000 and within 2 months, the price of those cars NEW, purchased from the same lot dropped to $30k...

Sorry to point out the flaw, but it isn't a good example.

Yes genius we all understand that! We bought the phones knowing there would be a price cut eventually. But not $200 in 2 months. I guess you didn't buy one did you?

And we understand that. The point is two months shouldn't matter to you at all. You bought a product for $600 that you felt was worth it. The fact that other people can now buy it for $400 after only two months should be irrelevant to you.

I bought a car, and then I found out someone else bought the same car for $2000 less a month later. But will Honda give me a rebate? Heck no, and I don't expect them to. I felt the car was worth the price I paid. What other people pay is none of my business. That's how free market capitalism works.

Difficult

Wouldn't everyone be upset though if Apple decided to lower the price of the iPhone after 4 months just to keep the original buyers happy or lower the price (as everything does) to attract more people sooner (like they have done) Personally, I think Apples mistake was not realising how many they would sell in the first place - I think if they knew how popular the iPhone would have been - it would have had a lower price in the first place.

Apple Forums ...... DEAD. Call 408 996-1010 to piss and moan

Looks like all the pissed off iphone owners killed the apple discussion forums.

But before they died, I got a # to corporate that is being answered, though the wait is long: 408 996-1010

Also, via TUAW, there should be something official about the adjustments in the next few hours, or possibly as late as tomorrow morning.

I realise people are annoyed, but let's please keep the discussion civil, thanks. Otherwise, there will be tears before bedtime... ;)

apple.com has shut down the discussion boards. i guess they aren't liking the backlash from the mac faithful?

Probably because that's not what the discussion boards are for. They're for asking and answering tech support issues.

Apple just shut down their support discussion boards -- which were flooding with negative feedback about the price drops -- they know they ****ed up.

I predict that by tomorrow we'll see some sort of official recompense for this situation before it turns into a PR disaster.

i understand that early adopters will always pay higher prices... but let us enjoy paying that higher price for longer than a month!

Wait, I didn't realize that there was going to be a firmware update to prevent us early adopters from enjoying the iPhone.

Shoot! There goes checking email, surfing the web, and Google Map!

NOW, I understand what all of you guys are whining about. I didn't that the price drop will affect our use/enjoyment of the iPhone.

Micro$oft dropped the Zune price today by $50, the Razr dropped from $800 CAD (yes!) to $199 in a matter of three months.

I dont think its so great, but its the way things are. Cash is King.

You dont like it? Then bring back Socialism......

I think your getting Socialism and Communism mixed up.

That happens all the time. Nobody cares.

I was pointing out the flaw in his argument.... personally, I feel c'est la vie. I had my lovely new iPhone since day 1... and I don't regret it at all... just figures that I would get the one model that they make no longer available LOL!

WhineAsses

Listen WhineAsses....
I bought my 20 GB PS3 last year over Thanksgiving weekend for $499. In a matter of 6 months my system is no longer available AND the one that had WiFi built in AND a larger HHD is the same price as I paid.

Do you see me bitching and moaning over on the Sony boards???? NO!

You guys that got your iPhone back in June and July just be happy that you got the hot item when it came out and that you were still the ***** to all your friends.

This is a VERY GOOD THING that Apple has done. Get over yourselves.
