Windows Small Business Server 2008

I just tried to install Windows Small Business Server 2008 to a virtual machine in Parallels, and couldn't do it because SBS wants a minimum of 4 Gb RAM all to itself. (I tried giving it that much, and got a warning my Mac and the VM could slow to a crawl, and of course they did.) So thanks to Windows (!) I now have an excuse to upgrade to 8Gb!

Alright bud. I have the 2010 2.4Ghz 15 inch base model MacBook Pro. After about 6 months I purchased 8GB of crucial RAM. NOW IS THE BEST TIME TO BUY IT. I purchased mine in November 2010 and paid 170 bucks. Crucial doesn't have the cheapest RAM, but it's usually dependable. Now Crucial.com is selling the same RAM for 90 bucks! That's a great, great deal. Secondly, I highly recommend upgrading your HDD. I purchased a 640GB 7200rpm Samsung HDD and that along with the 8GB has really made my MBP as fast as I could ask for it to be. So yeah, I think it's worth the upgrade. Hope that helped!

Depends. When I'm actually trying to do work, its about 400-500MB. Right now I just have this page open in Chrome, with Preview, iTunes, Firefox and Twitter running in the dock and I have 1.1GB free.
I guess I don't need to upgrade. The prices are very addicting though.

It's probably not a bad idea if your free memory is getting that low, especially at the price. Remember the days when doubling the memory was like as expensive as the CPU? I figured WTH and took the plunge myself. Currently, I have 6.25GB free of my 8GB...with that said, when running a lot of programs, I would have higher page-outs, which what I can gather from reading is not good. Now page outs are always 0. It actually always make me chuckle to think that this time, a decade ago, I had a laptop that had a smaller hard drive than my current RAM amount!!! :p

2 days of uptime and my current page outs are 5.4mb haha

now I've had a chance to give it something to crunch at it certainly feels smoother to use :)

Glad I did it now
