6.1" is bigger than the X lol.

You're looking for the SE 2nd gen.

No they said the same size as the 6/7/8. That’s quite a bit bigger than an SE but a lot smaller than a Plus model.

That’s the perfect size for me too. M6 wifes SE is too small for me now and the 4.8” iPhones hit the sweet spot.

The way the screen is with the bezels is the sweet spot on the 6/7/8. My thumb can perfectly canvas the screen because of the bezels. So I’m thinking a 4.7” form factor that’s edge to edge screen.

Not that the name matters but will there be an 8S?

Will it be a repeat(6S), repeat(7), repeat(8), repeat (8S).... or will they change the phone to a more modern LCD format , no bezel ...

And B4 you say it, I know its very early...
They already skipped 7s, which means that they are likely not going down that path again (at least not in the near future). With the 10 (X) being out, the next phone likely can't be a version that is below that.

Part of me also thinks that the fact that Samsung is doing a new numerical version of their top Galaxy line of phones every year, it sounds like Apple would need to continue doing that as well to stay ahead or at least on par with the Galaxy numbering so that it doesn't seem like Apple is "behind".

iPhone 11 M(ainstream) - LCD
iPhone 11 - OLED
iPhone 11 Plus - OLED

There are plenty of ways for Apple to play with the naming convention and market their 2018 phones.

What size screen if edge to edge would a SE 2nd have?

The SE won't have a thin-bezel display.

That's like asking when Toyota Corolla will come with leather seats.

Think of the technical requirements behind a thin-bezel display. Such a display means more power consumption in the same form factor. That means it needs an L-shaped battery and stacked logic board, both of which are expensive. It's not going to happen.

The 6/7/8 form factor will be dead (if rumors of the 6.1" LCD are true). The X is the closest thing to it. Alternatives to X and X+ will likely be 6.1" screen (which is not possible to put in 6/7/8 chassis, even if bezel less - it will be a big phone). Alternative is SE which is going to be SE dimensions, however 4.3" or maybe even 4.5-4.7 screen. I believe the last rumor said 4.3, due to having slightly less bezel.

I won’t be interested in the SE or paying a grand just for a regular size phone. I’ll go elsewhere begrudgingly if it’s only crappy options left.

Yeah there is certainty something to be said about making the "normal" size phone $1000.

With that said, it has been a trend for a long time to have the cheaper phone's available with larger than normal screens. Apple did the opposite of this at first, as they introduced it as a more feature heavy device instead of just larger; however now it appears they're meeting the typical market strategy.

Larger screen cheaper device, and the premium priced X devices. SE is simply a unique option to keep the super small form factor alive for those who want it.

This is why older iPhones are experiencing a boom in sales this quarter. People are going for cheaper devices and those with a more traditional form factor. I think Apple would be silly to ignore a significant number of their user base just to force a premium device on people. There will only be one winner there.

The LCD in a X chassis will be the 8S.

Who knows what they will do with the names next year though.

I personally doubt it. They're likely going for older phones because the newer phone's don't have worthwhile features compared to the old. Not enough to pay a higher price for.

If you're correct about that assumption, we'll see in another 1-2 years.

And then you have to factor most consumers don't even care about a lot of the features an iPhone X has to offer. The only thing they are likely aware of what the latest iPhone model is Face ID, but they don't care about stereo speakers, water resistance and or an OLED display. The Majority of consumers care about price point, which they Purchase what they can afford and that's one of the reasons the iPhone 8 exist. Apple knows that not everyone Will purchase the iPhone X because of the price point.

Especially with sale prices like the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 will likely be more discounted in the future, those phones will still sell very well.

I bet against an 8S, it'd be the fifth model with the same design. This year they put the glass back for inductive charging, but what about 2018? A faster processor and a better camera wouldn't be enough for the typical S model, I'd say iPhone 8 was the S model.
Their entire lineup will be like iPhone X sooner or later, I'd say by 2019. Next year they might sell another LCD model with less bezels, something in between 8 and X but I wouldn't call it iPhone 9 or 8s.
I don't think they'll name their new phones 11, we're getting to the point were the model number is too high, and it isn't even aligned with iOS since they'll release version 12 next year.
I wonder if they'll start from X, so X2 and X2 plus or if they'll come up with something different. In the end is just naming, very important from a marketing perspective but it won't affect how I'll perceive the product.
