Fair point but we won't know maybe for a full year or sales to see if Apple are gaining or losing with a higher price. Perhaps the fact they know less iPads are being sold they don't care.

As I say £499 with OLED, 4gb ram and 4K is certainly worth that maybe more as of 2016 hence why it's not here due to costs.

Perhaps Apple has over valued the pencil support. I imagine prices will come down as Apple have done this even with top model IOS I believe even iPhone dropped it goes with VAT in the US the ipad is miles cheaper? Is it not £50 less but the rise in question is not VAT.

Perhaps I should not be too harsh as I hope future releases offer better value. If it went up more next year or the year after I wonder what people's view is? In the Uk the banks have interest rates low how is this elsewhere in the world? Europe is not doing good with the Euro so inflation like this is unusual generally prices in the uk are dropping fuel, bus prices, energy prices and wages have just gone up.

Yep the naming is a bit confusing as we could still see an Air 3 without pencil. Now that would be just the ticket with Apple we don't know. iPad mini and Pro are due an update we would see more in the fall or the Pro pushed back to March.

Another question for regulars on here if we have a Pro with the best features well camera wise and screen when will Pro be due an update? But more so Mini as at the moment that's been lurking from the IPad Air 2 event so could we see changes this summer? Has 9.7" turned a premium size? Is mini going to be called Pro?

Please somebody come along and make some sense or speculation on this lol?

Doubt we will see 4K based on the scaling of display sizes Apple use, the Air range is dead, expect to see the iPad mini, iPad and iPad Pro probably starting from this autumn. Expect the current dollar pricing to stay across the range and euro and pound pricing will likely see no change until after the UK Europe referendum.

In a tablet 4k doesn't make much sense. 4k is good for bigger screens, one wouldn't even notice on a 10 inch display. I don't even think they would completely notice on the 12.9 either. So the screens are good at this place, but the ram should've been updated. Why does my phone have 4gb ram, and a new tablet that just came out doesn't? That doesn't make much sense.

What phone do you have? The iPhones only have 2GB. You can't compare android to iOS they are entirely different beasts.

Yea, I don't buy the whole ecosystem thing. I think companies just use it so everyone buys and stays with them. I understand there's some advantages, but they're not big enough for what I do anyway. I have the s7 edge, i use android as my phone, and apple as my tablet, pc is windows based that I built. I get what you're saying that it's 2 different operating systems, but it still seems weird that a pro that just released after my phone has lesser specs. It's 6 + times the size, and while ios may be very well optimized to not need much ram, future proofing with ios 10 coming doesn't seem like a priority.

As I have ranted on about in the past, I believe that Apple's interest in the mini-tablet form-factor has been steadily diminishing. Frankly, I think this is unfortunate, as I do believe that it is the form factor with the least amount of room for improvement, especially as far as Apple is concerned. However, given that (a) they are the undisputed king of the tablet arena, (b) the iPad as a whole has been going through somewhat of an identity crisis, (c) given (b), the current identity of "iPad" from Apple is that of a productivity device that will one day replace your personal computer, (d) there's no real ergonomic way for Apple's current efforts for the iPad to be said productivity device (namely, the Smart Keyboard and Apple Pencil) to translate well into the iPad mini form factor, (e) the iPad mini is a device far better geared for consumption than production (and always has been), (f) Apple's own interest in keeping the iPad mini in lock-step with the contemporary iPhone and iPad like it did in 2013 with the original launch of the iPad mini 2, and lastly, (g) Apple's own diminishing time and emphasis spent on talking about each new iPad mini (which really says something when you consider that the iPad mini 3 had MORE stage-time than the iPad mini 4 did despite the latter being different in design from all three of its predecessors) - it's not far fetched to assume that the mini's future isn't as bright as its past was.

So, no, I don't think there will be a 7.9" iPad Pro. I think the mini 4 will eventually be the only iPad mini for sale for a year or two before Apple finally does away with it altogether. I could see an iPad Air 3 alongside a 9.7" iPad Pro, as Samsung has sometimes done with its tablet lines, but there would likely need to be more of a difference between the two beyond the would-be Air 3 just being a watered down version of the 9.7" Pro.

It could be the different panel then, possibly the variable refresh rate being buggy, or just limited in how good the variable rr can operate.

Comparing with my iPad 4 now. I honestly can't see what you are describing. The 4 is more jittery under the vast majority of real-world scrolling situations. If I allow the page to load entirely, then scroll on it very slowly, as I think you were saying, it looks exactly the same as my iPP. That is, a tiny amount of blur from the refresh action, but it looks the same on both, and nothing like 30hz stutter.

I'm not talking about the loading. Scrolling the page at the speed I like to makes the text much more fuzzy than earlier ipad's. I read very fast, so I scroll a lot, and it was hurting my eyes. Not exactly sure what causes this, but the RR or the new display panel is the only thing I can think of, and this will most likely not bother most people. Or be much noticeable, but for me I read at least 4-5 hours a day, and it was a deal breaker for me. I sincerely doubt that 2 employees at the store, and I looked at 2 defective ipad pro's seeing this scrolling effect happen. I just think it was determined that most people won't care, or notice, and It saves battery life. I wish they didn't make the change to the display but oh well.

Just curious, but when you notice this, are you scrolling with your finger or the Pencil?

With my finger, and i assume the way a lot of people scroll through text when reading on an ipad is that they will just snap quickly down to the next portion of the screen to read, and repeat. I tent to slowly scroll as I read, and It's way more noticeable when scrolling slowly. If one experiment's with different scrolling speeds, they'll definitely notice it more.

I only ask because on my 9.7 I thought I noticed some fuzziness when I use the Pencil for navigation but I chalked it up to eye exhaustion. I'll take another look.

I don't know If it would be classified as ghosting, probably motion blur. Actually, I think the change they made to the panel improves viewing distance, and I know on PC monitors IP panels suffer from more blur and ghosting, so that could be the reason rather than the variable refresh rate. The pencil is really cool, but since I don't see myself using it all that much getting the air 2 was just fine for my needs which is 90% reading and viewing videos. I noticed on the youtube app on the pro 9.7, I also noticed more ghosting, and for some reason 60fps didn't look like 60fps. Don't know if that is just a matter of updating the software or what.

I'm not talking about the loading either, other than the fact that on the 4, which is much, much slower than the Pro, if you don't let the page load the entire content there is a lot of jerking while scrolling that would make it impossible to see any refresh issues. I read the same way, continuously, very slowly, and that's exactly what I was comparing. No difference.

Nope, I scroll very slowly while I read continuously. If the iPad were noticeably blurry I would see it. One thing I do notice is that the coating on the new screens is definitely stickier than on the 4, and as such, your finger may not always slide as smoothly over the surface which does cause some stuttering that I can see. But so long as that isn't happening, the motion blur at slow speeds appears identical to me.

Don't know what to tell you. I've chalked it up to at least a dozen people now that I've seen say that they see it as well. If you don't then I guess that's good for you, wish I didn't as well, but it's definitely there. Maybe you're just used to lower framerates, or your eyes aren't as sensitive to movement. They definitely 100 percent aren't identical. Just because the panel, the glass, and other factors are just plain different than earlier iPads. Maybe it's the anti glare coating?

One thing im going to make clear is I'm not trying to make this true. I was really exited for the pro, and enjoyed a lot of the new features.

An alternative way to look at it is going from the iPad Air to the iPad Air 2.
$0 for A8X CPU (triple core - 50% more cores than the iPhone chip), unique GPU with extra cores, much better display (better bonding of the screen to the glass), double the RAM, TouchID and Apple Pay (i.e. secure enclave), improved front and back cameras, 20% thinner and 10% lighter with same battery life, double the storage size (for $599 and $699 options).

The additions to the iPP are good, but not worth $100. It may be that you are happy to pay the extra, which is fine and a personal choice, but for me the additions are not 'worth' the incresaed cost.

Man, now I feel even worse for buying the iPad Air. Shoulda held out for the Air 2. Not gonna make the same mistake with the Air 3. Will wait for the Air4.

Not so long ago it was 'two people at the Apple store' (who may well have been humoring you) now it's 'at least a dozen people.'

I'm not saying there's nothing there, but either you are describing the issue and how to recreate it poorly, or it's likely not there on every unit. I have no doubt I would be able to see a stutter in scrolling that 'at least a dozen people' you found in the course of half a day could see.

I have a family and friends too that i asked, and its not at all a stutter. That's the complete wrong thing to look for. Its more like fuzzy looking text. There's been people in this thread and multiple topics that have described a similar issue. I absolutely am not trying to produce the problem.

Wow.

So your one of those the price will go up same as Scottish independance would have been?

Rumours suggest 4K most come to the iPad after a year or two.

The air is finished yes maybe but you are not Apple so how do you know what the next iPad is going to be? Is mini finished if it never got an update?

Missing the point typical Apple fan iPad updates have become less and less. This argument is a fail Apple have pretty much said iPhone is the sales market and Apple Watch now.

This argument is so 2012 unless you can some how fake tablet sales which as industry fact have been declining and it's well documented so keep going with that argument seems you like a yearly cycle regardless of what Apple have released.

Read the forums fans are buying the consumer is more savvy people seem to be favouring the Air 2 and Larger pro at the price. After all Apple has made a line up of not one iPad anymore a very confusing line which isn't saying just buy an Pro 9.7". Sales will be X high but it would be all iPads from mini to air 1?

Yes I heard the old retina debate iPad 2 > 3 which is true.

iPad Air 2 now having a bad screen is a new one.

I will defo have to try one in the Apple Store to see if I feel the 9.7" is better but the tone gone the iPhone 6s has this? If so I hardly notice it. It's just like the old yellow tint debate only now Apple added it as standard. Seems to stop returns lol?

What's all the Apple fans response to this point?
[doublepost=1460598548][/doublepost]Seems to be less and less on here that are defending this weak update and the review saying it was "Major" most have to agree that's being overly enthusiastic about a product which is less superior in ram and other specs to the larger genuine pro with last years cameras?

And yes I would buy a Pro today even at £499 if it offered something updatable over the Air 2. I said I wouldn't want a pencil it's a niche and sold sepetate.

Pro with 4gb ram, usb 3.0, Force touch then yes. If that's next years iPad and year after 4K I'm in. This is 2016 though and today I'm happy with air 2.

It is settled then. Still disappointed though. I will say the pencil was very well done, and the added tone features were nice, but since I mostly read on the device. I couldn't look past that issue. I'll add, there's more and more people getting accustomed to a higher refresh rate. So, I think more people will notice it than predicted. Especially since previous iPads were consistenly 60fps in the browser. I've seen two or three other people mention the same issue on these boards already.
THIS SCARES ME! I really can not watch plasma TV (see pulsing every plasma tv generated Picture) and i see difference between 120 and 240 Hz lcd tv screen... god, i have to check ipad pro 9.7 by myself, if I see this problem or not:(

I don't own a mini just considering getting one and would rather wait for a new one. Did Jonny Ive not push for the mini but Jobs said 9.7" was the only tablet size? That's what I read.

The Pro larger one surely has to be updated but they could wait until next year. Perhaps we will see if they release an iPad in the fall Apple don't seem to stick to regular release Windows anymore.

Good point. The thing is they could add it now in part due to the pressure sensing of the Pencil. Heck they could add the shortcuts as long holds to any device really.

1. No they couldn't because that is a different function in iOS, it would mean changing something that has existed since you could first move icons in iOS - bad idea.
2. There is nothing "short" about having to do something "long".

I'm not a yearly updater. I've owned the original iPad, iPad 3, and Air. Have upgraded every two years. This is the first cycle that I'm extending. Though it's more because of what I got out of my 6s. I would have thought 3D touch would have gone into the latest iPads, but I guess this price increase is in preparation for the next reversion which I assume will include 3D touch.
