Wait...how do we know this? I would assume it has the newest touch sensor.
Because Apple specificity states "2nd generation" on the iPhone 6s/6s+ pages, and on the iPad pages and iPhone SE pages it just states "Touch ID Sensor" with no designation of being 2nd generation.

It sucks having the older sensor in the iPad Pro but your muscle memory gets used to holding your finger there longer because of the size difference between devices.

Please don't rub it in much harder. If the 9.7" has updated touchID sensor, then this is a huge F YOU to 13" IPP buyers. Next time I hear Phil Schiller speak out I'm going to yell out BULL S***!

"Most advanced iPad Pro (speaking about the 13") ever - MY A*****"

Hey, it's not all bad for you! The 13 inch model can use USB 3.0 speeds when transferring files. The 9.7 inch model is stuck with 1990s era USB 2.0 speeds. The lower USB speed is significant for me because I want to use my Pro in photography work, and transferring large photo files under 2.0 speeds is a real slow process. :(

One of the reviewer videos I saw (I think one of them that's posted here in the forums) specifically states that the touch ID is 1st gen. He doesn't go into details, but just in passing states that it's got the 1st gen touch ID. It sucks that this is the "newest and greatest" yet doesn't have their newest and greatest hardware in some areas, but in reality, I don't think iPads are like phones in that you pull them out all the time, needing to access them quickly just to check the weather or sports score or texts etc. I feel like iPads are used for longer periods at a time and unlocking it quicker and easier isn't a priority. *shrugs*

I believe that the newer Touch ID sensor wasn't included in either Pro models because of usage trends/patterns. An iPhone is constantly unlocked throughout the day, while a tablet is less frequently unlocked (at least from my personal experience). Admittedly, the first generation sensor becomes frustrating when I'm using 1Password. I'm accustomed to my 6s Plus and how fast it registers my fingerprint that at times I have to go back and hold my finger down with the Pro's sensor. Not a big deal, but still surprising they're not using the newest technology for something so minor.
