I would think many care about knowing Apples targets because that is coveted information. Maybe you don’t, but I sure do. I dont care what macrumors posters think about the sales. I want to know how apple thinks the sales are going.
Then you need to talk to Apple instead of posting on MR. Otherwise you are communicating to people whose opinion you are not interested in.

Despite all the clamoring for a small iPhone on Macrumors I always said that the market doesn't demand it. I still recall a few years back when I used to be a phone reseller and I would have an easier time selling the iPhone 6/6 Plus than the iPhone SE despite it being newer and more powerful. People didn't care they just wanted the larger screen phone. I'm glad Apple did finally made one so that this complaint can be put to rest. The market simply does not want a small iPhone.

These are the stats for just one country. Nobody knows what the global demand for the Mini is at this point.

Finally. Proof that people really won’t put their money where their mouth is and buy a small iPhone.

The dream of the mini Pro is dead and I’m ready to move on finally.

typing this from my 12 Pro, came from an 8 and won’t go back.
Agreed. Small phones are way to niche. I don’t know a single person who said I wish I had a smaller phone. Mini is a bust end of story.

That's not what people here are talking about. Nobody really cares about Apple targets. People are discussing the disconnect between a vocal minority demanding a small phone and reality in which most people do not want a small phone.
^^ This ^^

Only Apple knows what the sales of the different models of iphones are. Your definition of "poor" sales might not be Apples.
It’s a comparative definition. The 12 mini sales are poor compared other available models. The 12 mini sales are also poor compared to the predictions of a loud vocal minority who spent months (years) talking about how a mini model would be the best selling model. They have been terribly wrong...as I predicted.

Who are these people who are a vocal minority and where did they voice their opinion?

The Mini may have sold well outside of America for all any of us know.

Mini products (iPad Mini, Mac Mini) have been associated with lower prices in Apple's product lines in the past. That the iPhone 12 Mini is priced at where standard iPhones were priced may be somewhat of a turnoff. It may be a victim of expectations and past marketing.

Drop the price to $500 and I think that it would sell a lot better.

It’s still the cheapest of the new form factor but maybe the fact Apple still offer the XR and 11 is taking sales off the Mini for people who are budget constrained? For those solely in the market for a small iPhone j think it’s the only one. I’ve encountered a lot of interest around me to be honest and maybe it hasn’t done so well in the States but may be a success on the whole globally.

When bigger screen iPhones became really popular with the 6 and 6 plus, it was clear that smaller screens would be less desired.
It was nice of Apple though to offer different sizes although they probably had a good idea on the sales performance of the smaller screen devices as they already shipped two generations of SE phones prior to the mini.

The article wasn't about sales, it was about activations on one day. I don't recall the hubris on the "vocal minority" saying a mini type model would be the "best" seller" in an absolute sense.

A lot of people bought the regular or larger phone a few years ago and were used to the smaller phones (SE) costing less. I like the Mini and I can get it for $250 off list but I don't need a phone. The 13 Mini would be more interesting as it's reported to have Touch ID. But I could just continue using my phone for another couple of years. There's nothing in the newer phones that makes them a must buy. I am more interested in the M1 and M1X Macs.

Yes, there were people all over Twitter, YouTube and forums like this screaming that Apple must sell a phone like the 12 mini, as there was insatiable demand. When it was announced, so many people on those same sites claimed that it would be the best selling model. It’s not a d it won’t ever be. Not now, not later, not in the U.S., not globally.

How do you know it’s not selling well, what sources are you reading to suggest this? Please share.

Call them out. Link to them. I’d like to see some of these screams in the forum.
