Does anybody have any thoughts on the best software for converting DVD to a format for the ipad i.e MP4 etc;

I loads of DVD's I would like to put on my ipad

If it is free it is even better !!!!!

I have lost count of the number of threads asking this.

Please use the search box.

But yes, Handbrake + VLC is good.

Handbrake can't get past all copy protection, so RipIt is a great program for getting movies onto your computer, which you can then encode with Handbrake.

I asked before

When the iPad first came out I asked these kinda question so be it old news I have to help out.
Download handbreak
Use the Apple Tv settings
Rip
Then go into iTunes and make the movie for iPad settings

Your looking at about 1.5GB on avg.

Some external cheap DVD drives also have no region lock.

Does handbreak work In windows?

Yes, it works for Windows.

I agree, it is getting annoying. DVD43 gets past the copy protection, that way you don't have to run two processes just to get one file :)

Well, Handbrake may be the easiest one and free to use, if you do not need any extra options.

However, I am stilling looking for the best way to add softtitle into m4v for iPad viewing......

What is the best way to save the subtitles of a DVD into .srt format on Mac?

Handbrake plus Subler has some problem when playing (not smooth if I turn on the subtitle). Any ideas?

Why on earth would you encode things twice? This is not the correct way IMHO.

handbrake now has a iPad preset
and i've never had any issues with subtitles using handbrake, are they not syncing or is the entire audio track off?

Faster processors will convert quicker.
2.5h seems a bit long, either it's a slow processor or you had other stuff running in the background.

Processor Type: Intel Core 2 Duo 6600; Processor Speed: 2.4GHZ, it is slow Processor???

Can anyone help me on using handbrake, I put a DVD into my computer and it starts to load but then it keeps saying error in the activity window?

1. Check the data side the DVD. Clean if needed.
2. Are you trying to rip a BluRay on a DVD only drive?
3. Is the DVD upside down?

normal dvd.

its says this.

Scanning title 1 of 47...
ERROR: dvdnav: Read Error, Error reading NAV packet.
ERROR: dvdnav: Read Error, Error reading from DVD.
ERROR: dvdnav: Read Error, Error reading NAV packet.
