I've done a bit of research on how to make copies of retail DVDs. I have used mactheripper to save the disc to my ipad 2 which seems to work OK :).

Actually, besides Handbrake, the second option to you is using Leawo DVD to iPad Converter — powerful and easy to use.:D But it's not free and not so expensive also.:( Whatever...

I find the DVD to iPod Converter with free version, the output video format can also used in my iPad because both of ipod and ipad belong to Apple I think. But the free version does not have the video edit function. whatever, the conversion speed and the quality is great.

I use RipIt, it costs, but works flawless! I use it to rip the DVD, then use Handbrake to compress it to 2GB. Everything looks nice on my Apple TV, iPad and iPhone.

What should typical file size be? I'm using iPad Magic and it seems my mp4 files are very large...a typical movie is about 3.1GB. I've tried Handbrake on several different machines and it seems to never work for me. I have better luck if I use another program to do the rip but even then it's flakey.

I currently use MacTheRipper, but I'm not sure if that program covers all copy protection DVD types.
Thanks.
