reading the specs of the iphone 4, I see that it's got the oleophobic front and back. What do you think abut putting on screen protectors, doesn't that defeat the object in the first place?

Screen protector for what? To protect against your sharp beard?
The screen is GLASS. Screen protectors are a waste of money. I've owned every iPhone since 2007 and I've never had even the slightest scratch on any screen. And that includes one iPhone that I dropped on asphalt.

hmm i never thought about that. wasnt there a problem with this coating on the 3gs. like over time something would happen to it.

wont some parts get the coating off faster then other parts. for example if u touch the phone more in one section the other.
That amazes me. I had my 3G for just a few weeks before I had somehow managed to scratch the screen from just keeping the phone in my pocket!
Yes, over time it will wear off and then it will be a normal glass screen without the coating.

Yes, that is true, but it's not noticeable from the eye. Your screen won't look uneven or anything.

Sand is very hard and can easily scratch glass. I think this is the case with a lot of people getting scratches on their phone while in their pocket.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7D11 Safari/528.16)
Yea that's true. Even though people think there is no sand in their pockets, there is in fact enough to cause micro scratches. After time having many of these scratches it will become noticeable.
I think spending less than $20 is worth having a barrier b/w the glass and the world.
what should u use to clean ur screen then?
well aren't you Mr. Perfect..
I beleive in screen protectors, I am a photographer and often toss lens caps in my pocket in the heat of the moment, 3 times now, i've tossed them in the same pocket as my iphone inadvertently and 3 times i've scratched the **** out of the screen. The first time, I had no screen protector and the screen was ruined.. the second two times, I had screen protectors on (that you can't even see if they're installed properly) and I destroyed the screen protectors. Luckily it was as simply as peeling it off and installing a new screen protector though, becuase the screen underneath was flawless..
That is a ridiculous and baseless claim. I don't understand people's problem with the oleophobic coating. Wait - yes I do. People are morons and don't understand what the coating is supposed to do. It doesn't make the glass somehow resistant to your dirty fingers - it makes the glass very, very easy to clean. I've had my 3Gs since launch day. It's in my pocket every day and the coating works in the same way on day 350 as it did on day 1.
