TBH I don't think its that derogatory. There are far more irritating words that could be used.

Douchebag, or simply douche, is considered to be a pejorative term. The slang usage of the term originated in the 1960s. The term refers to a person, usually male, with a variety of negative qualities, specifically arrogance and engaging in obnoxious and/or irritating actions without malicious intent.

Hope you guys don't ever turn on the news. You might also get offended by what you see and hear there too.

While we are at it why don't we sensor the word "guys" as well. For example, the sentence I wrote above is *clearly* referring to just men and not women. What about women? We can't be having such generalities!!!!!!

We need Newspeak for this site.

^^

Just to be clear, calling any of our members a douche, any group of our members douches, douchebags, etc, in almost any context other than ^^ that will probably get you banned, irrespective of how derogatory you think it is.

And to further clarify mkrishnan's point...

My post without said ;) is derogatory.

stridemat's, not so much.

It's true that we have had more trouble lately with users calling other users "douche", "douchebag", "d-bag", etc.

We're glad to discourage use of these words, since there's almost always a more eloquent way to make your point in a forum post, but we haven't put these words on the list of automatically filtered words (which are replaced by asterisks if you try to use them in a post) because it's OK to use them when referring to public figures, winners of the Darwin Awards, the lowlife who borrowed your iPad and dropped it, and anyone else who is NOT a forum member. Insulting forum members is what's prohibited and we maintain that distinction when posts are reported to the moderators.

Why don't we just turn this forum into Sesame Street. That seems to be the target audience now. Don't we censor enough here as it is.

If the kids want to use that kind of language just show them the road to myspace. It's down social networking boulevard past the YouTube complex on web 2.0 avenue next to Twitter world. It's the building that looks like a heaven for bumms since it hasn't been well kept up since 2003.

When I saw TDD's post I laughed so hard that Fresca came out of my nose. FRESCA!

Being a younger member of the forums, I find that there are not a lot of threads that I could use the word "douche" in. The word has more connotations that it really doesn't make sense to bleep it out. I'd advise the OP to stay away from those :cough: iPhone :cough: threads.
:D;)

while we are at it can we ban

f**k
sh*t
d*mn

etc as well?

Lordy knows that those asterisks totally hide the intent of the word lol

Point is...people will simple write d*ouche or d-bag or whatever varient to get the point across once they see it has ben sensored

All I hear is crying. wahhh wahh wahhh.

Report the posts if you don't like it.

That's not quite the point.

You don't really need to be saying this words in the first place. What do you gain from saying them?

Damn is not really that bad of a word. (in my opinion at least)

It amazes me how hung up on language people are. Get over it, you have no right not to be offended.

There are far more important issues this site could tackle if they cared to. They obviously don't.

Take a look at the first 3 pages of the members list. Then ask yourself why most of them are no longer active participants.

That's not quite the point.

I would argue what is the point of editing any dirty words at all.

Even Apple's own website can be a bag for vaginal discharge. I wasn't about to order from AT&T. I had my doubts, but Apple's site was being a douche and I definitely wasn't waiting a month to get my hands on one so I felt I had no choice but to order from AT&T.[/QUOTE]"]
