So I've had the Touch Bar 13" for a few weeks now and after finding the battery quite disappointing for the first week, I seem to be getting consistent results now averaging at about 9 to 11 hours which is enough for me to use it for a day (you can see the Activity Monitor snippet below of the time on battery). The time represents near continuous usage, with maybe thirty/forty minutes on sleep mode.

Generally, I was using Safari with multiple tabs (six or seven) open simultaneously, with Text Expander and Steam running in the background. For two hours of that nine I was watching a movie using Quicktime, for one hour of that nine I was watching a TV Show using Netflix, and for twenty minutes I was watching something on Netflix. I have auto-brightness off, and I tend to keep the brightness at 3 or 4 bars (I don't find anymore to be necessary). I had Bluetooth on and connected to my Beats Solo 3's, Auto-Brightness Off, Siri off, Keyboard Backlight on one bar, and I'm using "Unlock with Apple Watch" to unlock the laptop.

What I have found is that the time estimated remaining can vary wildly (this morning it was listing twenty hours for me, and twenty minutes later eleven), and I can't really rely on it, but I find assuming there to be nine hours in total, and counting down from there to be a rather reliable strategy for me. When I use the screen brightness higher it knocks maybe thirty minutes off (at a guess?) but up to the half-way point and it lasts very strongly (I don't tend to put it on full brightness often as I don't half much need of it being blindingly bright).

The reason that the battery life reduced is because of -- obviously reduced battery size. Yes our machines are getting more and more efficient as Intel improves their manufacturing process, but sizing down the battery is going to have a big impact for machines under load. And now the problem is people aren't really aware when the machines are under load, just like other guy posted earlier even the ads on webpages could require a fair amount of processing power. Will the machine reach 10 hours? Yes, only when a skilled user knows how to keep the machine's power consumption at the lowest.
