This is straight from planetbeing himself, the guy who has the first carrier unlocked iPhone 4. Backup your SHSHs now because in the future, Apple will cease to allow restoring to this firmware if you accidentally upgrade for any reason.

EDIT ON JULY 22ND, 2010.

According to comex, you can STILL back up your SHSH blobs for 4.0.1. So DO IT NOW in case you missed out on backing up 4.0 blobs.

I wouldn't worry too much just yet. I'm sure the Dev Team will jailbreak and unlock that one too. Plus it might will be a while before new phones ship with 4.1.
 
Good idea.
Everyone with an iPhone 4 that plans to jb and stay jb should save their shshs for 4.0 and get their device on cydias server for all future builts.
 
i did this, and im curious if i did it correctly? i clicked save my shsh, now before i do that, am i supossed to click on start tss server on the right? where did it save the information to?

Your files are saved in:

MAC:

/Users/<your username>/.shsh
ex: /Users/semaphore/.shsh

WINDOWS XP:

<MAIN DRIVE>:\Documents and Settings\<username>\.shsh
ex: C:\Documents and Settings\semaphore\.shsh

WINDOWS 7:

<MAIN DRIVE>:\Users\<username>\.shsh
ex: C:\Users\semaphore\.shsh

All you have to do to check is push the button on upper right. If they show up, it's done ! Almost idiot proof now days.
 
The modem firmware is different in 4.1 That's why he's telling everyone to back up your shsh's and not update. So why would they wait till 4.1 if they already have a working jailbreak/unlock for 4.0?

Not trying to argue at all. If planetbeing said don't upgrade if you need jailbreak and unlock, then don't upgrade. You do know that the 4.1 modem firmware is different right? Does calling people newbie nourish your ego?

I'm with ya in the same boat.. waiting for White and to see watching Apple at the moment to see if anything does happen. Not worried though mouse always out smarts cat! 😀

It's a given never to upgrade to official firmware unless we get the ok by the dev team. Updated baseband don't mean anything. They update the baseband built with every firmware but since they don't know the exploit they used they cannot patch it. Same way how ultrasnow unlocks over 4 different baseband versions with the same hack.
Like I said we won't know for sure till it's out.

I saved my blobs for my iPhone 4 like 2 weeks ago to cydia with umbrella, but I had to format my computer just recent, but I did save the .shsh file on a flash drive... I don't have to save my blobs again do I?

Nope. They are saved on cydia and on your USB drive. Your good.

But if you want them on your own computer, it take a whole 60 seconds to re-do it. No brainer.

That doesn't sound right. I thought when the baseband gets upgraded, the phone locks.
