I have to be honest, I'm really blown away by a Google Chromecast TV 4k (w/ remote) on the value and flexibility front.

It's so great to be able to install a third party launcher to fully dial things how you'd like and also a remote button customization App to, again, get it just how you want on the remote buttons. It's also, of course, nice to be able to install what I want on there with no "app store rules" nonsense from Apple

As much as I've enjoyed them overall, I'm not sure I'll be a long term Apple TV customer honestly.

Both on value and flexibility, these Android sticks have gotten really good.
Also, this thing I'm testing is old! Like 4 years old

The onn. Android TV boxes and sticks are pretty good too, from Walmart. Mostly comes down to what kind of remote you want tbh.

That's exactly what I've noticed here -- you are mostly picking the remote

I really wish someone would make a remote with "blank" extra buttons for relabeling once you software remapped them

There is zero need for a new apple tv you people are just obsessed with upgrading and spending money on a new unit.

The only thing the apple tv needs is hi res audio and audio pass through hdmi for hi fi users that want to use there own dacs.

All these things can be done through software. Its embarrassing that we pay for hi res apple music and capped to 24 bit 48k on the apple tv.

Honestly, a low-cost dongle AppleTV for the road would be awesome! I know a lot of TVs are building in Airplay now but I would still love to have my own tiny AppleTV for the road, for hotel stays, friends/family's houses, etc. I hope they make this happen.
