What's the point of having the discrete graphics, unless they work together rather than separately, there isn't much point having them, it's purely a laptop feature to save power/battery life...

:confused: Discrete graphics = a real, stand-alone graphics card that does not rely on main memory. I think you've confused discrete graphics with integrated graphics. They're not the same thing...

The point of discrete graphics is to have better graphics performance than onboard graphics can offer.
