Has anyone compared the 9C8B with the 9C8C?
I've got an 8C from Week 48 - and while it's not horrible, I'm not completely satisfied with it either. It's been calibrated with SuperCal, which certainly improved it substantially - but I'm still within my 14-day return period so I'm wondering if I should try and find an 8B screen.
Anyone?
Honestly, you'll be standing in line at the apple store for days if you're trying to get a particular model screen, make yourself crazy and know that the geniuses are all bitching about you in the breakroom. This is the voice of personal experience.
Apple has always cheaped out a little on the displays on their 'consumer' portables. It's not as bad as the difference between the iBook and the Powerbook, but it's there. It kind of makes sense, because I don't think anyone but professional photoshop/final cut pros and/or hardcore mac gamers would buy the pro if the screens were of similar quality. I just wish Apple was a little bit more honest in admitting that the screens were different.
You've got three options:
1. Live with it. The form factor of the new MB makes it a great road warrior machine. I carted my MB all over the place, but my pro tends to stay on my desk.
2. Get a monitor for desktop use. The 24" is brilliant, or get an adapter if you've got an LCD you can live with. As much as I'd like the new display, my 21" gateway is still good enough that I can't justify it.
3. Pony up the extra money for a MBP or MBA. Like MacJenn <ducks head down, looks around for angry mob, sticks head up> I choose the Pro over the MB even though it's overkill for my uses. I intend to keep my system for at least two or three years <knocks on wood>, and I didn't want to live with the viewing angle and contrast levels on the MB for that long.
Or, you can go ahead and buy every wonka bar in the apple store hoping to find the golden ticket. But it sounds like you're not going to find it. Good luck deciding!
