Grow up lad, it's a computer. It's not the end of the world and you are still breathing. What will be will be. More importantly more important things in life mate.

My parents have been waiting for the new iMac for ages. They are not young.

You sound like a young student activist that spits out irrelevant arguments that equate to comparing apples and fire.

Macrumors.com a place where apple fans can get flamed for being apple fans

Did you actually read the article?

Where does it say they are not releasing an iMac? Some models have issues and may not make it tonight - that's all they are saying.

People on this forum do my head in.

It's not simply a spec-bump. Apple could have done it ages ago. Dropping a new CPU with the same thermal envelope, a new GPU (may be a few watts hotter), and a SSD standard (on the high end model at least). That sounds like a really hard problem!

In this age and time of obsession with all things Apple, exterior design matter and Apple knows that full well. Look at the iPhone, all the leaks have been cases, back panels, front panels, display, etc. All external components. Why? Cause people really want to know what Ive has come up with. I don't recall ever seeing a picture of the A6 CPU before the announcement.

The iMac G5 first made the scene in 2004. The same plastic design went unchanged until 2007, when the aluminum iMacs came out. It has been 5 years since and I bet you Apple is looking for a refresh of the line. At the very least, we know something is different about the display with all those "lamination issues". So it's not just a spec bump.

They are not sure about the release dates for some iMac models. Pretty consistent with previous rumors. Only 16 hours to go before we know for sure. If Apple doesn't release the new iMac line tomorrow (regardless of stock availability), don't bother releasing it this year.

Could sheeple stop claiming that the iMac has not seen a redesign since 2007, my God what do you think the October 2009 update was - a Revision or change of form factor - the October revision 2009 iMac is a million miles away from the 2007 models and in my esteemed opinion they are a design classic - i really do not understand people moaning about the lip, its too heavy and the like - the 2009 model beats the pants off any AIO presently, it just required a few tweeks on this occasion and any major changes should happen with Haswell, which will change the thermals completely in any new iMac.

Instead of always keeping an eye on Apple, remember to see rumours about Intel - they actually provide two year road maps, and AMD/NVIDEA - again, they have road maps - its only Apple that does not have a road map and this 'sucks' big time if you are a business, hence Apple is now an out and our Consumer Electronics business with no interest whatsoever in the business market - hence the dropping of its server, lack of updates to Mac Pro and lack of updates to iMac.

Apple has roadmaps, it just doesn't see any reason to share them with the general public. I suspect that some of its largest customers also know what's along the road, but they're not going to share them with us, either.

And with good reason. Can you imagine the grief on this forum if Apple slipped by a month or so on a published roadmap? "But they PROMISED us", "if they can't make a simple date, they SUCK", "it would never have happened under Steve" etc. etc.

While I want to see new iMacs I am just not impressed with movement in video card technology. The two areas open for the most improvement would be processor and storage. Now a SSD oriented iMac would be awesome. Apple should have the the ability to sell 1TB SSD iMacs at very good prices. Swapping to SSD and externalizing the DVD would be a monumental move and would result in iMacs being very thing. The only issues with thin models being, how to dissipate the heat from the CPU/GPU because they could affect the screen. Of course the chin could be used to house those.

Regardless, it does seem odd we have gone this long without an update. With all the iPad products moving to the new connector it makes sense to just refresh the iMac/Mini with new connectors and no other changes.

Why are you even here?

I am here to gather news and debate on all things Apple. People forget there are more important things in life. I love Apple just as the next person, but I won't let it control me. When you die you do know you can't take you good with you right?

Its a computer and the OP is acting like its the end of the world. People die daily due to disease and other causes yet people have the luxury to be able to buy a Mac and complain/. If the original poster really needed a computer for work and to make money he wouldn't be worrying about iMac not being refreshed as it would be costing him money. So ill pose the question back to you Why are you here if you couldn't understand my first post?

Apple are as rich as *** I refuse to constantly give them my money just to keep up with my mates or fill my ego.

It's a computer. The only harm you do by buying any one iMac over any other is to yourself, if you don't fully investigate the alternative. Following hype is an odd phenomenon and hopefully you dear reader will decide what to buy far removed from any hype.

Why am I saying this? Because I see people come here and actually buy into this wait, anytime now crap (Now is fine if waiting only a few weeks, but to wait a whole year?!?) and put off owning a nice new iMac on the basis of unsubstantiated rumors. Nobody is guaranteed another single day to live. It is good to live in the now rather than in some hopeful maybe, someday world. There are some poor souls who have posted here about waiting since last January! That's a long time to wait for so far - NOTHING!

Wow, now i feel enlightend. All this wisdom must be a heavy load to carry.
And here we were, thinking a computer is the absolute most important thing in our lives. We were living in absolute darkness. Thank you.

Dear Apple,
if you are not intending to refresh your iMacs, at least have the decency to lower the price of your outdated hardware!

They won't. They've been selling the same out dated MacPro at the same price for ages.

You are completely and utterly wrong on this account period.

The leap in speed/performance between the latest AMD HD7970M and the AMD HD6970M are huge indeed in percentages terms and processing power than the speed increase/ performance increase between the Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge Processors - the same applies to NVIDEA.

Here's the facts, the third and fourth fastest GPU's presently available today are the top-end offerings from AMD and NVIDEA, the GPU in the current top-end iMac now being a mid-table mobile chip.

Now, and not being a fan of SSD, the greatest straightforward change to the iMac was swapping out the RAM, GPU and CPU and upgrading to USB3 - also offering a 3T HDD option and few more cheaper SSD options, such as a 120G option - no more than that.

The actual big change with Intel, as with the launch of Sandy Bridge will not happen until 2014, Haswell being an upgrade of the Sandy Bridge design with better power consumption and thermals - meaning from an engineering perspective the best time to fully change the iMac would be with the launch of Haswell - its just stupid to change the design with Ivy Bridge.

Again, its Mobile GPU's that have come on leaps and bounds over the past 18 months and not CPU's - obviously, chippery in iToys is another matter and prefer my big boy toys, be this the iMac, Mac Mini or Mac Pro if ever I can afford a top notch one rather than an entry model.

reading this

and the last updates.
I am now pretty sure that there will be new new imac.
this i s also the last event for the year.
so I have no idea when apple is planning to introduce it.

by now it is also clear that they came across some idiotic manufacture problem, that prevent them to update the imac in June.
so it went to October.
but this new info show pretty clear that they still have problem.
knowing apple, and history of products, they will push it all together to Jan 2013.

sad, but true.
