Amazing article, read the whole thing. They made amazing points, I started looking at my phone and the metal band, and they really just improved a good idea a great amount. All people care about is the shape which is kind of pathetic, lol. But with the 4 inch, thinner, just solidified my want for this phone.

Was the link to the article removed? I see everyone is replying, but there is no link to the article as I'm looking at this page on my iPhone.

Never mind!! Didn't realize or notice the hyperlink.

Are you really feeling disappointed? I'm not patronizing or anything, just honest question. I'm trying to think of a design that is currently on the market that is made so well, with the best materials that I would rather have, and I can't think of one. The One-X is great, but a distant second in my (very humble) opinion...

All the benefits of the new iPhone's (purported, but almost certain) only taller screen... All of them mean nothing to me. I don't care about watching videos on my phone, I don't care about a 5th row of icons, seeing more text on the screen does not make much of a difference to me...

I do not want to see the phone's aspect ratio decided off of video viewing... its a phone, not a tv. I wish it was bigger. I wish the Unibody design could encompass the entire phone (I understand why it can't).

I agree with you and your thoughts based on the current phones design. I simply do not like this new design. I hope when I see it in person, that it grows on me.

Crap I can't see the article here at work, I have explorer. Anyway, is this discussing the design of a phone thats not even out yet?? If this is the real design of the new iphone Apple really has a hard time keeping their phones under wraps.

it is a video someone posted showing the "shell" of the new iphone. If it is fake, it's an amazing fake. The article talks about the benefits of a unibody design and how much skill went into crafting it.

Ok thanks, I keep hearing that the fake is high quality. (looks like it in all the leaks anyway) If this is it, its cool with me....

this is an exact quote from the article

"If it’s a hoax, kudos to whoever made it because it would require the same amount of design and engineering effort that would go into an actual smartphone. Not to mention all of the collaboration that would have been needed between the numerous different sites that have posted images and video already. That’s an insane amount of work for a laugh, so I don’t think it’s a hoax."

However this doesn't rule out prototypes though, you know mock ups/ choices to bring before the board (or Tim and whoever else) for the final decision.

very true, but with all of the parts from all of the different places that would be a pretty mass produced prototype :)

Yeah, I'm convinced that this leak is the new phone. In fact I would be surprised if it turns out not to be...

Brilliant article! Didn't think of a LOT of the points he raised!

I also agree with the poster above when they said that the grills on the bottom won't just be speaker but it'll be speaker and mic! I bet the larger one is the speaker and the smaller is the mic...

I'm wondering if we'll get stereo sound now. Is it possible that 10 holes on each side of the dock connector are two speakers and the side with 16 holes includes 6 for the mic?

good call. That may be exactly how the holes are laid out :)

I'd be in favor of this to make a louder/more powerful speaker (plus it'd be a lot harder to accientally cover both speakers with your fingers), but would we really get much benefit from stereo speakers so close to each other? It would make more sense to me to improve the earpiece speaker and use that for stereo speakers.

This makes so much sense! I hope for this :)

Though looking at this picture if the phone is being held with the screen facing upwards then they would be moving the mic from the left side as it is now to the right side on the new one.

I dunno why are people saying the new iPhone will be "taller". Judging from this pice, it will be wider too!

This is the only pic which makes the new iPhone appear wider. All other leaked parts/pictures/videos show the same width. Odds are either this one is faked or there is some sort of weird illusion (maybe the new iPhone is closer) which makes it appear wider.

I think the other ones have showed it about 5mm wider, but not the screen....just the body

the Aluminum on the black iPhone looks dark and awful....on the white iPhone the Aluminum is bright and just perfect like all the Aluminum on the Apple products.

The black anodized stainless steel on the back of the iPhone 5 (or whatever it'll be called) looks GREAT, in my opinion and makes the design look very clean and refined, as does the white, although I do think (in my opinion) that the black looks better. Take a look at the pics below that show some renders.

EDIT: Sorry for the big a$$ pics, didn't realize they were that big lol.

The lighter aluminum looks good by itself, but not with the white back.

I respect your opinion, but I do have a question for you: What exactly do you want in a new iPhone? All the points that were brought up in this article are very good points, and although it may not look super different from the iPhone 4/4S, it is genuinely better, for the reasons that were listed in that article, and more.

The article was great, and it helped me understand the unibody, and even like the idea of it. I just wish there was a way to avoid the two tone... I do not think it looks good. I understand compromising looks for functionality to a point... but imo, and others I am sure. It is ugly. I feel like it kills the white iPhone. The black looks decent.

Also, with the success of the GS2 at 4.5"/4.6" (carrier dependent) (While I was at Best Buy, this was a widely popular phone, so I am not going off of numbers, cuz i don't know them) and the GS3 at 4.8"... I wish we were getting more than a 4" screen. With switching to 16:9 especially, I wish it was 4.3-4.5".

Give me this style phone, with a 4.3" to 4.5" screen, and I would be fine.

I feel like everyone who doesn't like it now, will like it once they see the real thing when Apple releases it. That's exactly what happened to a lot of people when the iPhone 4 was released.

At first I hated the two tone look, I thought it was a stupid design choice and that it was dumb of Apple to use metal and glass instead of all metal, but I've come to LOVE the two tone look and after reading this article, I like it even more.

We'll only know when the actual device is released by Apple. :)

Thanks for the reply, by the way. It was insightful.

I think I remember that "coke nail" from the last iPhone (iPhone 4S) leak photos that didn't come true.
