This video shows exactly what Apple is all about these days...wrapping stuff in a shiny package, technology gadgets...this video was a complete WTF moment for me to be honest, it looked great but whats the point in showing this?

I could care less on how my computer was made if i was a pro, all i'd care about was performance, this again shows that Apple is becoming or already is a company for the fan boys, hipsters and cool kids with rich parents that are trying to impress other people.

A keynote and all they had to say about their top of the line Mac was yet another sneak peek and how the lights lighted up when you move the tube so you would know where to plug in the cables... ..."crowd goes nuts"

how about the pricing on the 8 and 12 core?

Good design matters to people (and Apple are the best when it comes to design) or would you still like a big beige box of a computer on your desk.

That manufacturing video was the most interesting pat of the keynote IMHO. Very cool stuff. I'm hoping they are right that it will be in Austin TX!

at 1.41 of the video, she smiles while she works.. :) how awesome would it be to work at Apple? :)

If i was to use it as purely a workstation ( and thats what these computer are -work horses) than yeah, i wouldn't care about looks, if i was a professional using this computer to make a living than i would be perfectly ok with however it looked...i'm sure that the vast majority of professionals care about performance and not about how the computer looks on your desk...correct me if i'm wrong.

Its expensive gadgets point blank...i mean seriously, is the hardware inside the nMP that much of a revelation...

No lots of design professionals care because this is the stuff they care about and also because clients come to their offices. They want offices to look nice and cool.

But the last Mac Pro looked great as well. So there wasn't any sacrifice there.

Though I'm very not convinced about the upgradability/practicality; I still want one. In an R2D2 case. Or maybe just all-chrome. If they could just pop around my place and manufacture it like that on my desk, that'd also be swell. :)

yes, please start making all parts in US and bury all your electronics trash in US LOL

I see someone is actually buying that sales pitch LoL. Better than China? wishful thinking.

No sales pitch at all - just a fact - 1,700 jobs here in the U.S. to assemble the Mac Pro. I like the idea of manufacturing coming back to the U.S., which its gradually doing - I think Motorola is assembling their newest Android phone here too.

So, in your opinion, why wouldn't 1,700 jobs in the U.S. and Mac Pro production here be better than no additional U.S. jobs and the Mac Pro made in China?

Please people
Its a polished metal cylinder with some vertical circuit boards, it's not sci-fi.

I wonder of there will now be yearly mac pro updates ?

They are actors, the full Ad was staged. It's not the real
plant.

As one who produces video for a living, I say...

Yes, all commercial videos are staged because real work place environments do not allow for camera positioning (distance and angles) or proper lighting for video.

That does not make the people in the videos necessarily actors nor the facility fake.

If Apple were to shoot this, say on an iPhone, to convey more authenticity of the shoot, they would be derided for the perceived poor quality of the video (as compared to what they did produce here) and then people would question if Apple is serious about launching the Mac Pro if they can't even afford to make a quality looking video.

The authenticity of this video is the robotic arms doing the machining and manufacturing. They exist. They are operational. They are producing the finished product. It does NOT make sense to have only the case manufacturing operational and none of the electronics manufacturing and assembly. After all, all manufacturing is mass production assembly lines nowadays to achieve lower costs.

So your observation that the workers in the video were staged is absolutely valid and probably true.

But your supposition that they are actors and the plant is not real, is purely conjecture.

There is no middle ground here when it comes to video production.

It's an amazing manufacturing process.

The power of the new Mac Pro was expected. What is most amazing to me is that it's as quiet as a Mac mini. That's truly some great engineering.

I'm a pro and I care seeing how my next computer is being made because the long wait is justified. My next computer IS being made. It's not hypothetical. It's not delayed in production.

But it is not shipping til December. That implies other things are holding up it's release.

Now follow my logic.

Look at Apple TV. It's a product that's been in production and shipping for how many years? But Apple calls it a hobby. It sells, sort of. Not in any volume for people to say, Wow! that's an incredible hit like the iPad or the iPhone. So why does Apple call it a hobby? Because it's waiting for 3rd party people to agree with Apple's terms and conditions to provide content and what not.

Now look at Thunderbolt. It's not even an Apple product. Technically, it's property of Intel. Yet, when Apple went with Thunderbolt on the MacBook Pro, what's been the major complaint? Where's the Thunderbolt accessories? And why are they so expensive?

So, if 2 of my product rollouts are affected by 3rd party, I would want to make sure that my next product rollout is NOT affected by 3rd party.

Has anyone else notice the absolute LACK of rumors regarding the new Mac Pro? No mention of third party Thunderbolt displays or hubs. No mention of PCI expansion boxes. We, the public, have talked about them in the forums, but NOT a SINGLE 3rd party manufacturer has.

That implies to me that every 3rd party manufacturer is working with Apple on this and have not only signed the requisite NDAs, but have a sizeable contract negotiated with Apple for selling their 3rd party products. Because if I were Apple, I would make it a top priority to get Thunderbolt accessories ready to attach to the new Mac Pro BEFORE I release the Mac Pro because the Mac Pro will be nothing without the promised 4K displays and Thunderbolt accessories.

Just my 2 cents...since a dollar doesn't buy that much any more.

Mark my words...

The next big thing will be skins for the Mac Pro. That barrel can be copied and modified to make it look like the original Tron Master Control Tower or just make it gold or chrome or you name it. It is an amazing canvas.

If I was an industrial designer I would be going for it.

You can even make a White Tron like barrel with led lights powered by a usb port.
Yep. I already can't wait for all the LED case mods and pink and purple anodized aluminum casings and such

I'm looking forward to the tear downs though. I'd like to see some modified cases say like into a Mac Pro case to have everything contained in the case and not have cables and wires all over the place.

Rack mount chassis, but the concern is the ventilation, it will change.
