Suggest that you don't restart the computer when the folder shows up. This will allow more diagnosing to occur.

OK it just happened and I followed your instructions and after doing so the weird Desktop folder disappeared but, the screenshots I took of the Terminal window are still missing - going to restart so they reappear and I can post them

The output in the Terminal windows looks normal.

What version on macOS are you running?

Catalina 10.15.7 but it has happened on all versions this year since getting my MP 7,1
Never happened on my late-2015 iMac
Did you have the same software (macOS and apps) installed on your iMac as you do on Mac Pro?

The one suggestion I have is try downloading and running the 10.15.7 full installer. It won’t erase any of your user files or applications. It will only refresh the macOS system files. Maybe something is corrupted and this might refresh a corrupted system file.

The only new App on the MP versus the iMac is WIPR

Maybe it will cease once I upgrade to Big Sur but, due to the plugins I use for music production not yet ready for Big Sur, that could be some time from now

I am also getting this issue occasionally. A "Desktop" folder appears on my desktop, that cannot be opened. It disappears after a restart. I notice that many of my favorites in the Finder sidebar also disappear at the same time (and thus I have to check them on again in Finder preferences).
Using Catalina 10.15.7

Yeah, exactly what I went through
Although, it has not happened since I moved to Big Sur
