That is fantastic. There is a, am I getting it right, haptic touch, interaction in control center to change/choose your WiFi network,

BUT

iOS is STILL languishing with the same tired 12 year old Springboard that is in serious need of an innovative and groundbreaking overhaul.

Please Apple, dedicate some serious resources to taking a quantum leap forward in Smartphone interaction and productivity!

Was hoping they would add something like google night sight for the camera
I had hoped for similar, but I imagine they will reserve that announcement for the 2019 iPhone launch, that will also be the full launch of iOS13 and it will no doubt be announced that you need to have the 2019 phones for a software feature to be enabled, much like the depth of field in portrait mode.

You do realise that the new volume interface means for sure that we are getting haptic volume buttons on the new iPhone in 2019? So the new iPhone will be even more water resistant.

This could even mean goodbye to the silent switch.

just curious what is the difference between bike directions and walking directions?
The area where I live is full of official bike routes. I like using apps that know about these and direct me to them.

For example, if I want to cycle to a town 100km away and there's a bike route there, it's easy for the app. Just direct me to a convenient point on the marked trail and then route me along it. If I tell an app I want to do a 100km walk there's no way it'll pick a decent cycling route.

Here’s an example: I was at Square One and needed to get to a house around Dufferin Mall. I punched in the address in Google Maps and it was telling me to get up to the 401, drive all the way east, take the DVP down, take Richmond to Bathurst, then up Bathurst to Bloor and finally to my destination. What a weird route! So, I tried Apple Maps even though I didn’t like to rely on it for getting to time sensitive appointments. It gave me a far more direct route. QEW downtown, off at Jameson, and up Landsdowne to my destination.

After that, I started paying more attention to Apple Maps. Then this one time, I was shooting a wedding and during prep, I mapped out my route to the wedding and Google Maps was giving me a place several km away from where I needed to go. I checked Apple Maps and it showed me the correct place.

A map app is only as good as the quality of its data and Apple seems to be doing way better here. I don’t have hard numbers but I get the impression that iPhones rule in Toronto. That might influence the quality of collected map data in this city.
In the last 12 or so months I noticed this as well. There are places in my town google maps can't even find while Apple Maps finds with no issues and as you said it often finds better routes.

Boosted Face ID.
Dark mode.
Swipe keyboard.
Faster App loading.
Improved CarPlay.

These are significant, & I haven’t even read up on the other updates.

Let’s go, IOS13.

Darn. My two sons’ iPhone 6 will have to suffer in iOS 12 for a while. Really can’t afford to be upgrading both their phones!

  • Sorry—It’s a no for the 5s.
    • iOS 13 requires iPhone 6S or later, iPad Air 2 or later, the new iPad mini 4 and iPhone SE
    • It won't be coming to several older devices that have been supported up to iOS 12: iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air, iPad mini 2 and mini 3

I shouldn't have to fix issues like that on my phone. I spend enough time all day fixing servers and such; the LAST thing I want is to do the same thing with my phone.

Yeah, you said it. I’m an IT guy too and have to deal with Windows hardware issues all day long. And that’s the reason I went with the Apple ecosystem too: because when I’m at home I don’t want to have to deal with anything. The nightmare you went through with your Google Maps experience is just wrong. No one should have to figure out bandaid solutions for their tech stuff.

Optimized battery charging
A new option helps slow the rate of battery aging by reducing the time your iPhone spends fully charged. iPhone learns from your daily charging routine so it can wait to finish charging past 80% until you need to use it.

It's finally here. A simple but effective way to reduce battery aging.

Even more easy way is to sound a notification when it’s 100% charged.

I just want to be able to turn wi-fi off! Only Apple could make something as simple as on-off switch do something unintuitive.
I must be lucky... the WiFi selection feature doesn't work on my Xs.
It gives a haptic feedback, but doesn't pull up any list of networks.

Looks like a lot of new and useful features. Not sure how all of my music will now be on my phone (purchased as well as my CD uploads to iTunes), but I won't worry until I need to.

Now if only I could actually LEAVE a group text and not just place it on "do not disturb".
