OK, this thread may be useless, but I just wanted to share that I am now the proud new owner of a Mac mini Server 2011 version.

Thanks to the advice I got on this forum, I upgraded it with a 6G SSD from OWC and a full 16 Gb of RAM:eek:

The result is a fast fast machine.... I am coming from a 2008 Mac Pro and, quite frankly, the new system actually feels faster than the 3 year old machine...

I regularly use Aperture - I was a bit anxious because of the limited video card in the mini Server, but the result is satisfactory (I guess the 16 Gb of RAM help).

Also, for those who are interested, the system works well with a 30 inch NEC Multisync 3090WQXi display, using the dual-link adapter.

The result is a great system and a huge gain of space in my office. :)

You have built a very powerful little machine! I have a base model of 2011 Mac Mini with 8 GB RAM and a 256 GB SSD. It works wonderfully for me on ordinary jobs I throw to it.

not to mention saving about 200 watts of power for every hour you use it vs the mac pro.

Yeah, it's pretty sweet. I have the Server with the Apple SSD / 750 GB HDD and 4GB RAM (My 8GB OWC RAM should be here today). It's faster than my early 2009 i7 Dell Windows 7 machine. Super quiet too (when it isn't vibrating) compared to the Dell tower with big fan going.

My favorite feature is how fast it starts up. With my Dell, I'd start it up, walk away for 10 minutes and maybe then it might be ready to do something.

I just got bought a new mac mini about a week ago (base model with an added 2gb of RAM for a RAM total of 4gb) and Im in love with it. Truly glad that I chose the mini because I was thinking about going with the base model iMac. I don't run any heavy programs. I use AIM safari and watch movies on it. Love the mini line. I will probably stick with them as long as they are around for.

I'm the proud owner of a new mac mini the entry level model and I will end up upgrading the memory!

I really enjoy it as it is so quite and I run both Lion and Win 7 on it!

I do have to say that I'm a little sad that I don't have a DVD drive in it but I can use my macbook's drive to install what i need.

I was so tired of how cheaply most PCs now a days are made and I was very happy with my macbook and decided to go all mac and I'm sure I will upgrade my macbook when I get the chance.

Any recommendations as to apps are a must have for the mac mini?

    Thanks all!

Congrats and thanks for the info! I am likely to do a similar thing, I am running 2006 MP (2.66). 8gb ram will suit me (I have 9 in the pro), and was thinking of hanging one of the thunderbolt raid chassis on it (I really need at least 3 drives and USB is just too slow!).

Count me in as another happy customer. Though not the server model (I purchased the model with the 6630 video card. Upgraded the HD to 750GB 7200RPM, and 8GB of RAM.) I use the mini for everything really, iTunes empire, gaming, writing, browsing, scripting, virtual machines etc. Connected to a 27inch ACD, this computer is great. It feels powerful and flexible.

I love my new base mini as well ;) I ordered 8GB of memory with it, so it runs pretty well with just the spinny drive. I use it as an HTPC hooked up to my 42" HDTV full-time. With an external 2.5TB Western Digital HDD and Apple Wireless Keyboard and Trackpad.

I am actually posting this on my TV :apple:

I picked up a Mini server on Saturday, I have 8gb of ram coming and an optical cable. It's connected to my 73" Mitsubishi TV and looks great! This is my first Mini, and so far I'm impressed.
