What goes up, must go down... So will it be with apple to.

Very nice letter, but so sentimental, (i know what you feel)

I'm also in for a new laptop or desktop, but i'm allready looking to alternatives.
I know windows for Graphic design market isn't that great, but the gap between this to major companies is getting smaller. So if they not come with something, i buy a used one. No money to this company.
The other companies like asus and dell or coming with nice machines.
IPS, better graphic card, same options but cheaper.

Cupertino shares will grow a little bit (maybe reaching the 800$ could be possible), but then they are on the way back.
They will be victim of their own succes, spoiled the people 5 years with new gadgets with beautiful designs and innovations, they've been a trendsetter for the mobile market, design market (now trying tv market) ... but they forgot that if you (as a parent) should spoil your own child to much, that the child will always want more. They are really losing their minds.

The apple hype will go on untill the people become smarter...
Some our really worshipping a company.:D A company??? Come one.
Apple is becoming a hype... Hypes don't last long periods of time.

HERE is an alternative.

Note the good gpu a hd7850

this can get the job done for a htpc...

I find it very interesting that the unit has 3 black smoke complaints in the newegg reviews .

Send them an email

I actually don't recommend that if you want your letter to be actually read. Emails are notoriously easy to ignore and delete without ever reading it and the recipient being none the wiser. With physical letters, somebody has to handle it and read it. It may not get a response, but they are a lot harder to ignore than an email which isn't guaranteed to get anywhere.

Nice build, but no video card?
I will use the CPUs hd4000 integrated graphics, maybe I will buy a discrete gfx card later. All ATD ports USB2 and FW work too with this motherboard, has been tested by other ATD user. The USB3 on the motherboard is an issue at the moment so I will wait until the end of october for ivybridge desktop macs. If no new macs I will go this route anyways. Apple is asking too much money for the current mac mini's hardware.

Yes, shudder. 14 months is eons in computer world.

And it wasn't new tech when it came out.

I can't believe some people are such fanboys that they will put up with any garbage and smile about it. Or worse, mock and criticise others who have more sense than them.

Its the cry-baby entitlement tone of the letter that I mock. Someone is pouting!

I have composed several letters to apple. I have yet to receive a response to any of them. I hope you have better luck than I have had.

I wrote a letter a couple of years ago and received a reply. Of course I haven't seen any sign that Apple agreed with my desire for a mid range desktop Mac that isn't an iMac.

Yes, the fanboys that cannot accept any criticism at all of apple are the ones pouting. Somehow you seem to believe it to be towards a family member and not a profit driven company.

Yes, because if a profit-driven company doesn't doesn't give you what you want, exactly when you want it, you can throw an tantrum and write a whiny letter about how you are entitled to a new shiny apple product with the latest and greatest in technology.

Or you could just go buy something from a competitor company that suits your needs and not expose yourself as a self-important sissy-pants and a cry-baby. Apple isn't the only one that makes small desktops and nobody said you weren't allowed to purchase a PC. Cheer up, nerds!

The quality control issues are scary. Doesn't somebody make a dependable non-Apple mini? I'd be willing to pay more for one that users say works. I just basically need a mini/moderate with USB3 and HDMI and fast enough for video.

ToothTooth, it seems to me YOU are the one doing all of the whining. Why are you getting your panties in a bunch o er his letter? You are taking yourself way too serious.

A Mac is a PC?

This is the reason apple does not need to rush.

yeah on paper the asrock is better but how is support.

please it is slow at best.

It is very frustrating that no one wants to make the unit...

I have been doing a lot of studying and when intel makes the Haswell in 2013 its iGPU will be good and would allow what a lot of people want a mini sized unit with pretty good graphics that is not as hot as

'he double ll' That is a long way off..

I have opened and modded many mini's.. I had a crack at an asrock 'mini' a month ago.

Right now a smoking fast killer machine with all the bell's and whistle's does not fit in a mini.

An i 7 quad cpu

a discrete gpu

2 hdd/ssd

dvd/blu ray...

internal psu

can't be done.

the new asrock is close has a dual cpu

http://ark.intel.com/products/67355/Intel-Core-i5-3210M-Processor-(3M-Cache-up-to-3_10-GHz-rPGA

has a good gpu hd7850

has blu ray

has an external psu

fits 2 hdds/ssds and an msata based on this unit at this price point

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16856158033&Tpk=asrock visionx

I would argue it is still short. you will want to add a mSata 225 and more ram 100 so 899 is now 1200 =1300.

I am not sure I want that.

I HAVE THIS .

http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2268192

I will do just a bit more to this but this cost a lot of cash. about 1600.

Do I like it more then my minis yeah but only in the room I use it. I can place in an area that it does not look too bad.

I will take a pair of photos to show what I mean.

well I think everyone would think the wall mount mini works better in that space then the shelf mounted asrock would work. but in that ht the asrock works okay.

Haa ha! Cheer up, nerd! Maybe apple will see it fit to bestow upon you a new macmini. If not, hackintosh yerself. You have other choices than Mac and apple doesn't owe us, as consumers, anything just because someone feels entitled to it, which is the whole point of this silly letter.

I did not write it pimple popper, I am just replying to your whining. I am not waiting for apple to bestow anything on me, just laughing at the fanboy's that live in their mother's basement and get offended by anything said about a company that could care less about them.

[please whatever you have to post, post it after you have read my thoughts, just hear me out, thats all I ask]

Apple,

I ve been your fan for quite some years
I ve always admired your innovative products and the way you thought different
but it seems as lately you have lost your focus on your true fans, and pursue a hunt to the most profit market.
That is not bad because profit is what keeps a company going.
But what seperates a company that stays loyal to their fans and just another faceless company going for profit is how loyal it stays to the customers and fans that has already created.

Of course when having 7 billion people on the planet and more than 7 billion mobile devices, with demand for more, thats the market you want to be in, I understand this.
But you simply do not forget where you came from.

My computer died on may, I decided not to purchase anything though I was in a serious need for it, till July when new mac products would be released. Nothing was announced on the WWDC. I decided to purchase a cheap pc just something to get me through the following months, and would pass it on to my father when new mac desktop computers would be announced, as he is also in a need for computer.
What does not fit in this equation is, that there is no effort that can be seen, that Apple desktop computers line is going for a refresh or even a renewal. And I m most concerned for the mini, thats why this is posted here.

In my house I have 2 TVs I use also for monitors, they are 42'' and 32'' thus I have no use for an iMac because another screen doesnot fit in my setup. My best fit is a mac mini. I love mac minis. They re small, they fit anywhere, they do not take too much place, not so many wires running around. It fits my needs perfectly! But buying a mini now, with technology of 3 years old, on that price, is just out of the question.

I hate to be that guy that always brings this up, or thinks that way, but if Steve was alive, would he have left it this like this? I truly believe no. Because as much as he knew he has to stay in the game with new technologies and trying to compete in the most emerging markets, he never forgot where he started of, and the customer base he already had.

As much as I say to myself I will wait till new mac computers come out, I really do not think I can hold on much longer. I am not the only one on this position, I know there are a lot of people with the same needs as mine. From me you are losing a purchase of a mac mini with a keyboard and a trackpad and whatever gear I would have bought down the way, plus an extra mini I would have loved to buy for my father after seeing mine. But multiply this by all the people that are on the same position as me. We have to go somewhere. If you do not give us what we need, we will have to look elsewhere.

Dont forget where you coming from Apple.

Get a life..... if you need a new computer, get one now. If you can wait, then wait. Simple really

TS: That was the worst piece of crap I've read in a very very long time, talk about exaggerating one of the least concerning issues of every day life. Get a frigging life will you

Apple release ALMOST annual upgrades to their Mac line up yet there's always someone like you who complains Apple didn't release new upgrades.

i can't wait to see what Apple will include in their 2012 Mac Minis i wish if it has SSDs as standard i just don't get all the bitching and whining of topics like this...

if you go to an Apple store right now you will see all kind of Macs from Macbook to iMac to Mac mini i'm sure you will find something that will fit your needs.

i bet anything Apple released since 2005 will be good enough for you.

48 tb?

...About 90% dedicated to play my video library on HiDef TV via VLC and sometimes plex, 1080p HDMI. My bank of 16 3TB hard drives (2 feeds of 8 drives each) making up the library
Exactly how many years do you intend to remain indoors while watching these movies? You will need to get outdoors once in a while to replenish your Vitamin D. Just having fun with you.

.

2012? I'm not sure they release new mac minis this calendar year. Maybe you have to wait till 2013.

The only product line more neglected appears to be the mac pro...sad but true, just not enough revenue left in the desktop lines as others pointed out. Only the imac gets more regular updates lately.

Many people use desktop macs for work so I understand the whining...
