Well in my rose tinter glasses I was hoping if I connected both I would be able to see two disks in finder and use one for time machine. I know……Im hoping for a lot there haha!
If u have 2 new disks onboard, when installing macos u can install it on the nvme disk and leave the 2nd disk for timemachine and other stuff...

So - no joy after fitting a PCIe v4 adapter. I have ordered the Sintech adapter card mentioned above, it comes tomorrow, as soon as I can I'll fit and see if that helps. Sightly concerned about the hardware since this will be #7 or 8 time it is all dis/reassembled - I have got quicker at it though. Very convenient to have the SSD slot on the rear side haha. Two things come to mind. Its there an apple configuration I need to change if this was previously configured for a Fusion drive? Could that be why the SN850x is not showing up?

This is exciting news!! No excuses for lack of a backup……possibly. The pcie4 adapter arrives tomorrow - will post results!
Sounds like you are in a need of a UPS as well. Cheap insurance if you have lousy power. Also, don't use an internal HDD for Time Machine. That's bad practice so please don't! Put the backup on a external HDD or on a NAS or somewhere in the cloud (encrypted).

As for your previous questions regarding WD SN850X and which adapter, I have a 2TB SN850X running in my 2019 iMac. Using the regular Sintech adapter. They normally aren't advertised for those late iMacs but they do work. There's no difference to earlier models 2015-2019. It's only PCIe 3.0 x4 so don't expect PCIe 4.0 speeds even though the SSD itself is capable of those speeds.

A split Fusion Drive can be "fused" again https://support.apple.com/en-us/102226 but unfortunately it's a destructive process so any data that's on any of the drives will be lost. If the previous Fusion Drive have been split, you should be able to see the separate contents of the drives in Finder. You should be able to use an external HDD enclosure for the HDD, but the Apple blade SSD will require an reversed adapter to NVMe to be read.

Thanks a lot for this info. I tried the sintech adapter today, all deffinitely pushed home and secure and nothing is showing in disk utility or terminal (#diskutil list).

Before I give up and put the sn850x in a usb c enclosure, any ideas why this is not working for this mac? I have formatted the sn850x on another mac as a bootable partition to be sure that is one less thing it might not show.

The info regarding Bootcamp, thanks I'll not do that and put the hdd in an enclosure.
