For the past several years I've had a borderline obsession finding the thinnest case possible for my phones. What I look for is something that adds a little grip, protects against scratches and may offer some protection against small drops. Many cases which advertise themselves as thin/slim/etc are actually not, in my opinion. These ones here are <. 5mm thick and fit the bill. Phone is 13 Pro.

Not really ultra-thin but still good bonus pick: DiMiK Thin Slim Fit Matte Finish Soft TPU Minimalist Silicone Phone Case Cover (again, their words)

I'm not declaring a winner here, just sharing some thoughts. First, approximate pricing (USD):
TOZO: $12
Caudabe: $25
DiMik: $9

I'll start with the DiMik, which I only ordered to have something to protect the iPhone until the other two shipped. As mentioned, while it's not as thin as the competition it's still very lithe, especially for a TPU case. Thanks to that TPU it's also grippier and provides more drop protection than the others. Bonus points for being less than ten bucks and having availability at the same time the phone launched. For a cheap, temporary case, it's actually very good. If you want a thin case that offers some more security than the others here, check it out.

Moving on to the TOZO, it's what I used on my 12 Pro and really liked. The corner on that one broke off after a nasty fall, but it saved the phone. (And again, these aren't made for the ultimate in gravity deterrence.) It fits incredibly well and is slightly transparent, just showing the Apple logo. So far this one is just as good as my last and I'm very happy. They also age very well--assuming you don't drop and break them--which can't be said of all plastic cases. (I've never seen a 'Patina Plastic Proud!' thread on here.)

Last up is Caudabe. Between myself and my wife we've had several of these, so I know them pretty well. This one is very similar to the TOZO, but is completely opaque. It's been fine in the brief time I've had it, and appears to be made the same as their other Veil cases. As such, I can tell you a couple things to be aware of: The material will show marks/scratches (it actually came out of the box with a small one; not enough to go through a return, and it will be soon be joined by many more), and prior cases have had a tendency to 'warp' over time. I've replaced a couple within the 12 month warranty due to this issue. It's possible they've fixed this defect, but again, the material seems identical.

A couple random points to mention. First, they all work fine with my wireless charger as well my MagSafe Belkin car mount. Second, it's not uncommon to see super thin cases rated somewhat poorly. While I'm sure some are just generally not good and deserve their rating, I've found that many get dinged due to incorrect expectations. "I dropped my phone on concrete and it broke, this thing offers no protection!" is a common complaint. I can't speak for other cases, but when it comes to these, if you have reasonable expectations you should be satisfied.

I'm not declaring a winner here, but the TOZO case for 12 bucks (or less, with promotions) is hard to beat. I actually prefer it to the Caudabe so far, and it's half the price. And while it's not as minimal as I like, I can see many folks preferring the extra protection of the DiMik at a price that can't be beat. Happy to answer any questions you may have!

Have you ever tried a Switch Easy case? I am a little tempted to try their super thin case. I like that it actually has buttons on it and not just button cutouts.

I have not, but just checked out their site. Looks like their thinnest model is the .35 Ultra Thin Case, which is somewhat confusingly actually .6mm. That’s a bit thicker than the thinnest ones here, but if you want buttons it may be your best bet. Price isn’t that bad compared to some others. (Price is also why I didn’t include the Totallee case here. I’ve used them before and they’re good, but $40 is just too much for what you’re getting.)

Which of them are the thinnest?

For how much the BACK glass cost to repair, whatever choice people make, just make sure that it protects the back glass well! This is where i think Apple cases are the best if you want thin. I don’t trust 3rd party thin cases at protecting the back.

I tried Peel (0.35). Green solid matte finish.

Found they didn’t give me the grip I was hoping to get.
That’s a fun color! Peel makes a very good thin case, I used to have one. At the moment I view it the same as Totallee: Just too expensive for the minimal amount of product you’re getting.

Ahh cool. Check out Memumi ( Japanese brand ) looks to be .3 mm. Been tempted for a while to get it but that branding gets me every time.
Hmm, I may have to try them, thanks for the heads up! I don’t know if these cases are just too new or if their SEO is bad, but it’s tough to figure out what exactly they offer for the 13 Pro. Branding aside they do look nice and the price is reasonable.

You can also check out Bare Cases, they have similar thin clear and frost color cases comparable to Peel/Totallee/Tozo

Bare did come up in my search, but with their prices I wasn’t sure if they were a serious business or some kind of money laundering scheme. Regular price of $150, on sale for $70? They sell their product as a ‘kit’ with screen protectors and stuff, but still 😳

Not for the 13 but I believe they have them out now also.

I have a Pitaka Air case with a Nomad leather skin on the case for my 12 Pro Max.

The Nomad leather skin is made from Horween leather so it has the leather smell and feels very nice.

Very thin as well and adds little thickness to the Pitaka case.

I have used the Tozo/Peel/Totallee cases in the past but the Pitaka Air is thin, weighs 10g and actually provides decent drop protection.

I dropped my Pro Max last weekend getting out of the car and it hit the driveway on the corner. The case got a ding but no damage to the phone.

Not the cheapest combo but when you pay $1k for a phone using a case that adds minimal weight and bulk and protection has worked well for me.

I have the same setup with the black Nomad leather skin but use the brown on my Pacific Blue Pro Max the most as you can see from the wear.

Looks good 👍 I used to rock leather cases, it’s a great material for a case. I thought about trying the Pitaka—which is expensive but seems more premium—but the thread here about the sharp edges on the 13 series cases scared me off. Seems like folks are not as happy this year.

I always wanted to try these kind of cases (tozo, veil) but i always go on and read reviews. And what i usually read is that they warp and that they scratch the bezel of the phone from putting on and taking off the case.

What is your experience on these?

Bare in mind that i take the case off my phone every 2-4 days to clean the inner of the case from dust etc. Taking off the case will warp the case faster? Or do you think the phone will get scratched from this material from taking off the case 2 times a week?

My experience is that it will stretch out and not fit well anymore if you take it off twice a week. Peel actually warns against removing their thin case too many times for this reason. They’re all the exact same material basically.

Yes, I would expect the cases to warp and/or stretch if taken off 2 times a week. I never experienced scratching from the cases

I think any harder plastic case—which the thin ones usually are—have a higher risk of scratching. (Physics!) I have seen it but it’s usually not too bad, and a slightly scratched frame is worth it to me given the other pros.

As others have mentioned, there is broadly more risk of warping with this type of case, but some seem worse than others. As mentioned in my OP, I’ve seen Caudabe cases warp but haven’t seen the TOZO do it, despite being of similar construction. (Not a scientific study here.) To avoid having to take the case off for regular cleaning I paired a dark frosted case with a graphite iPhone this year. Last year I did a frosted white case with a silver phone and it showed every spec of debris around the sides of the frame. Out of sight out of mind this year 😉

Not a bad idea bro. What’s the weight of that?
