he's got a very valid point. Most people certainly don't need the best, fastest processors out there...thus, i can see apple using less than great processors in their computers and most users will still be happy with them.

That may be the case at the moment you purchase it. I always buy the most powerful computer I can afford, within reason. After 5 years I am generally less pleased with its performance and buy a new one.

I'd say Apple is more like Infiniti G35.

Great styling but only average performance. You can get cheaper laptops(cars) that don't look as nice but will more much faster(Mustang GT). The Apple(G35 may be better at battery(fuel) but for what most people do the PC(Mustang) will do it just as well or faster(Games).

Personally, I equate my mbp to a honda.

The main reason I got it was that it was reliable. I was getting tired of random shut downs and slowing of my windows pc. I also think that mbp is a better value proposition due to time saved and the software that comes with it.

I find it funny that some people consider an apple product a prestige thing. For god sakes it is only $1-3 thousand dollars, far from a Ferrari or such, that will last many years. And just about every other person that I see has one.

Also, for me, hardware has overcome software needs. Whereas before I needed the newest hardware to run the software that I run, nowadays any mid-range hardware is more than enough for my software needs.

Everyone who posted before me made very good points. I often see many people looking down at other Mac owners when they hear how that person uses their Mac. It's as if they despise the 12 year old kid who unboxed the Mac Pro he got for Christmas because they know all he will be doing is watching YouTube videos on it. Jealousy? Probably. But it doesn't really matter what the person uses their computer for. As long as they didn't break into a store and steal it, I don't really have much of a problem with it.

****. I only do basic Word/Internet/Stat/etc. and I live in Baltimore County with slooooow speed limits. Does this mean I need to get rid of my MBP and my 355 Spyder?

I prefer to think I have bought a BMW or Audi of laptops. A machine that holds it's price, has fewer problems, runs more efficient and power is there should I need it.
I am only going to be surfing the net, using itunes, maybe streaming and playing the odd game. I have owned my macbook pro for just over a week and love it as it takes about 20 seconds to boot up if that, turns off in an instant, doesn't get hot and has not crashed yet and is very fast.

Macbooks aren't the more powerful laptops out there like the bmw or audis are of the car world. Bmw and audi aren't a reliable as people think either. Neither do they hold value as well as people think.

That leads me to my next question. If a postal mail truck and a Smart Car had a drag race, who would win?
That reminds me of the question that continues to perplex the greatest minds of our time:
If a chicken-and-a-half
Can lay an egg-and-a-half
In a day-and-a-half,
How long would it take a grasshopper with a wooden leg
To kick all the seeds out of a dill pickle?

I doubt I even challenge my desktop setup at ALL, but it's pretty fun having a fast system.

I was at the Mac Store with my Pro 15 because it was making a scratchy noise. I started talking with another customer with same Pro 15. I explained what I used my computer for: almost always for word processing and internet, a little photography, even less video editing. He said, 'you bought yourself a Ferrari to drive at 20 miles an hour; it's nice to have a Ferrari if you have the money, but do you really need it?'. He was right damn it!
He has his for 3D models of properties, pixel hungry plans.

Macbook Pro is not that powerful of a computer to even bring up the comparison with Ferraris but I understand his point, as things you do can be accomplished even with iPads.

His points would be more valid if you were trying to pick up 12-core Mac Pro for word processing and facebook, lol.
