I don't see the problem or why MacRumurs is reporting on this. It's a professional product aimed at a highly professional sector. This incredible piece of creativeness will pay for itself many times over when used in the environments that it is aimed for.

A basic RED 8K camera is 50K upwards - a Phantom camera used for extreme sports film is 100K upwards. That's the industry.
This Mac Pro is the true ultimate. It's the best of the best for the absolute best. Period.
It's not aimed at the MacBook Air customer!

It’s a high end professional machine. The price has been known, roughly, for over a year. I would be interested knowing what someone who can use a machine like this thinks of the performance and price. I don’t really care what someone whose only metric is price thinks of it. If a graphic or SFX house says it’s good then I’d like details about what they like and dislike about it. Average Joe’s (like me) can’t afford and don’t need this level of computing, so I would trust someone who does to tell me if it’s ridiculously priced or not. And even then it doesn’t matter. I will never buy a computer in this performance class.

$6000 plus tax minimum for the cheapest Configurations and no monitor ($5000-$6000) mouse or trackpad either. That’s with 256GB SSD storage

I remember some billionaire buying two Apple watches for his dog and posting pictures of the dog wearing them as a joke. Now we need to see Fido browsing the interweb on two Mac Pros.

You are only putting one screen on a computer like that? I think it calls for a minimum of three. So add another $14K. But you can remove $199 since you don't need both the stand and the VESA mount.
Done. Here's the new total. (3) monitors total, and VESA mount removed. :(

Makes me wonder if you built a cluster of Mac Minis or iMac Pros for a similar price, if you might not get better performance, assuming your tasks can be parallelized well.

This machine is awesome and relatively fairly priced for what it is.

The sad part lies in the fact that it is not as flexible as the machine it replaces, in regards to the space it occupies in the Apple Computer lineup and it's appeal to prosumers and non-Pro enthusiasts.

This thing sits (too) FAR above anything else Apple offers.

I hope 7/7 on-site support and repair is a given ? It is expected by buyers of Dell & HP high-end workstations.

It almost makes the iMac Pro seem like a bargain! :p

The iMac Pro is still a beast of a machine... with a great monitor included... starting at only $5,000

But yes I agree that this new Mac Pro has raised the limit on what you can spend on Apple hardware!

Amazing to think you would get $3,120 back if there's no cashback limit per purchase beyond the 6%. Enough to buy an iPhone Pro Max, iPad Pro and Airpods Pro.

Apple, "Buy a MacPro, get a MacBook Pro for free through 12'31"

No problem with the maximum build out price, it's available if you need it.

The problem is the base price, which could have been more reasonable if they didn't go nuts with the physical design. $400 for a set of casters? The functionality of polished stainless steel could have been accomplished with quality chromoly, for much less cost. They really didn't need to re-implement the cheese grater holes just for an updated "exotic" look (also wonder how much of a dust hassle it will be??).

I'm not saying it should look like the pre-trash can MP, but I think the tremendous drive to create such a marked departure from the last tower shows just how out of touch Apple has become.

I'm not sure if there is a lower cost alternative for the processor that supports less max memory, but still can live in the same socket and motherboard (upgradeable of course).

It just seems to me that they could have done just as good of a job functionally and hit a $3.5K - $4K base price - without - looking like a "putty" colored box.

Other issues aside* - If the base price was $3499 I would have clicked buy already. $3999 would cause me a bit of deliberation, but an eventual WTF moment.

* I'm a developer on the fence about Apple platforms (for a number of other reasons).
