For real though, the “Pro” in the title actually means something (as opposed to Airpods pro which I love lol). For creative professionals, it’s an investment.
Just noticed that SSD is basically $400 per TB. That’s actually very reasonable for what you get.
you can host youtube ;-)I guess this machine is a little overkill if I just surf the web and watch YouTube?
PowerMacs used to be similar price to iMacs. They were a prosumer option for those that wanted to be flexible, as well as a machine for the high end market. This is mostly lost now, some will argue the current Mac Mini can fill this spot, but there is little tinkering to be done. I would be all for a $3,000-$3,500 version of this. (Used to be lower, but Apple tax is higher now...)No problem with the maximum build out price, it's available if you need it.
The problem is the base price, which could have been more reasonable if they didn't go nuts with the physical design. $400 for a set of casters? The functionality of polished stainless steel could have been accomplished with quality chromoly, for much less cost. They really didn't need to re-implement the cheese grater holes just for an updated "exotic" look (also wonder how much of a dust hassle it will be??).
I'm not saying it should look like the pre-trash can MP, but I think the tremendous drive to create such a marked departure from the last tower shows just how out of touch Apple has become.
I'm not sure if there is a lower cost alternative for the processor that supports less max memory, but still can live in the same socket and motherboard (upgradeable of course).
It just seems to me that they could have done just as good of a job functionally and hit a $3.5K - $4K base price - without - looking like a "putty" colored box.
Other issues aside* - If the base price was $3499 I would have clicked buy already. $3999 would cause me a bit of deliberation, but an eventual WTF moment.
* I'm a developer on the fence about Apple platforms (for a number of other reasons).

It would be way more if you couldn't dig tar sand oil out of Alberta and sell it at a loss - just to maintain 0.75 CAD for 1.0 USD. Building a certain pipeline (at the time) would have helped , but now it's too late so you have to beg the Saudi's and other unsavory cartel members to take (at a steal) it. We run on light sweet down here now!I'm in Canada, entry level is $7500, over 50% more than american dollars...this is just insane for a computer at this entry level. I'm hoping AMD releases those cards in the wild.
Thats almost my 2 year earnings before tax & sales tax alone beats my credit card limit..... Don't think I can buy it even if I open a gofundme page...lol...[/QUOTE]
In Europe it costs about 71.000 euro without AppleCare.
Awesome, I wish I had the projects to justify using a maxed out machine. It must be really cool pushing the limits of what this MP can do.
