I will never buy a computer in this performance class.
In 10 years from now, this performance class will probably have reached the basement bargain price area, so at some point in the future you most probably will. 😉

Not really much different than an SGI desktop computer back in the day. The SGI had one advantage though, you could plug in two monitors, two keyboards, and two mice so that two people could use the same computer without bumping into each other. Got a good ten years service too, so cost per use was low.

Ill look for the maxed out model in 2034 when grandpa Cook comes out with the next Mac Pro rendition and by then Ill pick the current max off ebay for a cool discounted price for only 41 thousand.

By then I bet this computer still screams for basic web browsing and watching mp4 downloads.

If things keep going as they are, you will have this kind of power in your pocket in 10 years time.

A 2009 Mac Pro is outclassed in benchmarks by a 2019 iPhone 11 Pro Max.

The future is here. We already literally carry supercomputers in our pockets.

Wow, now looking at my Apple MacBook Air in 13.3 and Gold doesn't seem such a bad buy... when I got it on sale for $1299.... I cannot imagine that Mac Pro being worth more than my newest items I got this past few weeks..

(This was from an inheritance I had received from my Mother passing away in October, and reason we are getting a new Minivan is because we were without a minivan since our 2004 Ford Freestar lunched it's transmission @ 184,000 miles back in May. I had decided to get ourselves the Apple items we always wanted and the Toyota for the wife since Im disabled and cannot work anymore due to disability. (I was a local truck driver until 2012.)

2020 Toyota Sienna for wife @ $32,000
MacBook Pro for wife @ $1299
IPadPro 12.9 for daughter that's an artist.. @ $999
Apple watches for each of us... $1400
Apple IPhone 11, @ $700
IMac Pro @ $5,000

Thats roughly $40,000-ish, But wow, If you need something that powerful for your work or career and just write it off your business expenses, please do.

Who buys these computers? Millionaires only, right?

Probably professionals=millennials that make tons of money out of unboxing/reviewing/vlogging/gaming/benchmarking/influencing. For poor researchers and scientists these machines are underpowered anyway.

This blew my mind, I had no idea what the phone processors were capable of. It's roughly equivalent to an Intel Core i7-9700K in single core performance.

That means a maxed out Mac Pro with Apple's top of the line specs (minus the rack mount, since that's a niche option) and the best Pro Display XDR will cost just shy of $60,000 at $59,748.

*spits juice all over my ipad*

WTF??

Yeah, that’s a lot of money. But for those Who are professionals in the tech sector that requires those types of specs’, this is the ultimate machine.

All I know, is for that price it better not throttle...

With Mac Pro orders now live, pricing for all of the build to order options for the machine are available, giving us an idea of what it's going to cost to get the top of the line upgrades.

Apple lets Mac Pro buyers upgrade the processor, RAM, GPU, and SSD, as well as add an Apple Afterburner card, wheels, and accessories, all of which add to the cost.

2019-mac-pro-side-and-front-800x581.jpg

Starting with the base Mac Pro with a 3.5GHz Xeon W processor, 32GB RAM, a Radeon Pro 580X with 8GB memory, and 256GB SSD, choosing all available internal hardware upgrades will net you a price of $52,199.

Add to that the $400 wheels, and the price goes up to $52,599. From there, if you tack on the Magic Mouse 2 and Magic Trackpad 2 combo, you can get a maximum price of $52,748.

If you want a maxed out rack mounted Mac Pro, expect to pay an additional $500 when that option becomes available, for a total price of $52,848.

If you want to add a Pro Display XDR to your Mac Pro, expect to pay $4,999 for the display itself, plus an additional $999 for the stand. Add on an extra $1,000 if you want Apple's special nano-texture glass, for a total display price of $6,998. You can, however, save some cash if you go with a VESA mount, which is priced at just $200.

That means a maxed out Mac Pro with Apple's top of the line specs (minus the rack mount, since that's a niche option) and the best Pro Display XDR will cost just shy of $60,000 at $59,748.

The new Mac Pro is nothing more than a modern Silicon Graphics (SGI) of this era !!!

They need to break up apple the monopoly, its unfortunate that its gotten to the point of just catering to the rich. There are thousand dollar desktop pc's because of choice and really hope the government looks into this, its just absurd they charge this much for a desktop. When you look at it, most of the components come from other manufacturing, apples provides the 'case' and software.

Such a beautiful piece of tech. I have no need for that much power, but I still want one and of course went to the store and checked out the specs. Lovely. I am sure those who need it, will love working with it.

What do you "think" apple has a "monopoly" on? The government, in a free country doesn't decide how much a company charges for something. Instead, the individual decides what to pay. Clearly, this computer is not for you. You don't have to buy it. There are literally thousands of other choices.

Since there is no competition to apple, they are a monopoly, even tim cook suggested it. Do your research.

You’re probably correct, although it may end up that everyone just has a terminal/monitor and your “computer” is something you rent and pay for the speed and features you want.

Or not. I’ve been hearing that this will happen “soon” for a long time.

How about I amend my statement to “I doubt that I will be able to afford a cutting edge system and will always have to wait until those features and capacities trickle down to my price level”?

I'm not sure which disappoints me the most - the fact I can't afford one of these, or the fact that I don't have the talent to make the most of one even if I could afford it!

There is no doubt in my mind that the new Mac Pro is the incredible machine that creative pros have been patiently (or not!) waiting for for many years and it's fantastic to see Apple really pushing the boat out to produce a machine that is a worthy successor to the previous cheese grater Mac Pro

Apple have got their mojo back :)

problem is not the 50-60k for the maxed out model. only 1 of 10000 users will order that.
problem is that under 10k you cant buy anything that makes sense with this mac pro.

the 580 is a crappy card costing $250 retail, so you need to add 2.5k for a pro vega
the 256gb ssd is a joke, you need at least 1tb. its proprietary and must be from apple
only with this you're already almost at 10k.. with an 8core xeon
for that money you can get a 32core threadripper with four 2080 11gb nvidia cards and lots of ram
for multicore-software such a system will be almost 4 times faster than this mac pro ...

the big question now is: what can you buy, install on your own?

a better amd card (do standard pc cards work?)
memory (should work)
the cpu (should work, but where can you order these cpus?)
an additional standard ssd for storage (space/connectors?)
