Gary Hustwit posts a rare photo of Apple's Jonathan Ive inside Apple's design studio.
We did a follow-up interview with Jony Ive at Apple in California last week, and enjoyed the opportunity of filming inside Apple’s design facilities. I felt like Charlie in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, except everything was made of shiny aluminum instead of candy. And there were no oompa loompas.
The documentary called Objectified is an independent documentary about industrial design that will debut in March at South by Southwest:
It's a look at the creativity at work behind everything from toothbrushes to tech gadgets. It's about the people who re-examine, re-evaluate and re-invent our manufactured environment on a daily basis. It's about personal expression, identity, consumerism, and sustainability. It's about our relationship to mass-produced objects and, by extension, the people who design them.
Apple, of course, is amongst the companies featured.

I know he makes plenty of money anyway but do you think Jony or Steve ever just says "Give me a [x]" and he gets a machine to keep?

How about a "peek" inside Apple's design studio?

Apple's studio must be pretty big to include a mountain...

I read an article on this workspace a couple of years ago. All I can remember from it is that they also have a large soundsystem and a massive iTunes library there as well.

I wonder if there are any unreleased products hiding in the shot. Amazing if some confirmation of a tablet or next-gen design was caught.

What a job.. and with these economic times Apple had to let the Oompa Loompas go. Said i keep refreshing this page constantly for the past hour... still waiting for an iPhone 3G software update.. :/

ok, I know all the hype for some of these items.. but I really think people are just starting to see stuff :p

I think I wold actually kill to get a look in that design studio! I wonder if he'd like to swap for my office. There are plenty of top secret prototypes about they just aren't as exciting.

ACTUALLY He sint really holding a MacBook at all, its the new flip iPhone with full keyboard (non virtual)

What kind of laptop is Ives holding? I thought all the new MacBooks and MacBook Pros have one big trackpad?

Looks like the new 15in MacBook Air or the 17in MacBook Pro...

ill have to keep my eye out for this movie, should be interesting :)

While I am sure they may get some kind of discount, oddly enough I dont think they can just grab a product off the shelf, for tax reasons. Its considered compensation and uncle sam gets his cut lol. The law is something like that.

However, thats not to say they couldn't just take it, call it a work computer, and never technically "own" it. When they need a new one, "return" the mac/ipod/etc to the company recycle bin....

Pretty sure that's a current MBA... I seriously doubt he is dumb enough to be holding an unreleased prototype in a movie. Unless this movie was filmed 2 years ago...
