im also thinking of upgrading my ibook g4, i have never done it before.
what i want to know is whether i can install the new OS without having it wipe all my files?

what OS do you have right now? and how much memory does your G4 have?

i have 10.3.9 and it has 1.25gb ram

I would suggest you back up the important files. and then TRY upgrade. There is just really no guarantee since every individual's computer probably at different states.

No, no no no. You guys are mis-understanding me. Before I even install Leopard, I want to format my external hard drive (Which I already put my important stuff on) into Fat32. How to I do this?

so when i upgrade will it wipe my hardrive or not?
you will have a choice presented to you, in which case, you can choose upgrade (which theoretically won't wipe your data) or a clean install (which will remove your data)

maybe you can install vista first then format the external HDD in Vista?

No, I want to reformat my External Hard Drive in Mac OS X Tiger. Now, where do I go to do that. Disk Utilities? And when I get there, how do I reformat it?

I love all of leopards features, but it is a helluva lot more unstable than tiger. If it had tiger's stability and all of the new features it'd be perfect. BTW: when I say it is more unstable I mean it's still more stable compared to winblows, just not as stable as tiger

Agree on point with this. Very happy I bought Leopard but it is half as stable as Tiger and I use it on both my iMac and MBP which are basic machines (in that they are not used for anything other than music, Word, browsing) and have plenty of space on each.
