Since the Haswell processor will be released in April and it is not compatible with Ivy Bridge motherboards, then maybe they will wait until April for the iMac. There are heat issues with Ivy Bridge and that may be a reason why to keep it out of the iMac.

So Apple would forgo tens of millions of dollars in sales over 6 months to avoid the inconvenience of modifying the board at that time?

There's a LOT of different theories on why Apple would not release a new iMac among other new product releases. BUT, with every minute that goes by Apple is losing sales. IF (a big IF) the new iMac is ready and available, Apple will release it.

How do we know it's not going to be about '5 Things'...

It could be about 5 fingers. Or 5 toes. Or 5 years. Or 5%. Or 5 iPhone models. Or 5 blueberries. Or 5 star reviews. Or 5 Things I Think I Think.

That said, there's no reason to think it WILL be anything other than iPhone 5.

Does anyone know anything about this:

Apple quits taking iMac orders; New model in Septemberby Larry Angell - Apple has quietly announced that it is no longer taking orders for the current iMac and that a new model will be introduced in September. "Apple has stopped taking orders for the current iMac as we begin the transition from the current iMac line to an all-new iMac line which will be announced and available in September," reads a note on Apple's Web site. "We planned to have our next generation iMac ready by the time the inventory of current iMacs runs out in the next few weeks, but our planning was obviously less than perfect. We apologize for any inconvenience to our customers."

I was actually checking out the online store for the little note before scrolling down to your post. I feel like an idiot now. :D

I stumbled upon this article too a few weeks ago and was super excited. Then I saw the date. It was when they transitioned to the iMac G5

If anything was mentioned, I would expect it to be mentioned very briefly at the beginning of the event - just a quick mention to say there have been iMac updates to blah blah blah...... Then they move onto the main topic.
That's IF it is updated :(

There is so much speculation that a NEW iMac announcement would get lost in a iPhone event or that Apple wouldn't want a iMac to diminish the spotlight on the iPhone. That's ridiculous. The iMac isn't one of Apples hot products anymore. They're not going to hold a special event just for it. What better way to introduce a new iMac than in front of auditorium full of tech journalists? A new iMac will get significant attention throughout the blogosphere even in the face of a new iPhone.

Apple will open the event with a summary of sales/market share info, transition into announcing the iMac (IF its ready) and then move on to the main event. Simple. If no iMac, then its NOT ready.

I believe that Apple would have done a spec bump by now. It should have been done it earlier in the year. This could mean two things - they had a problem with the upgrade or they are doing something bigger than a refresh.

I'm hoping that it is the latter, however, we have not seen any leaked product info. None of it makes sense.
