The scenarios:

1. Apple responded to complaints.
2. The change is merely coincidental.

The complaints are the the evidence. The most logical answer is usually the right one.

Also, Apple is actually responding to design complaints submitted by developers. In some cases, they even follow-up with questions. Under Steve Jobs, Apple did not dignify such complaints with responses.

Well I only ask because 9to5Mac said certain items in beta 3 were already floating around during WWDC. And seeing responses here since beta 3, it seems a lot of people liked the thinner font so I'd be curious to know how many complaints they really received.

But hey, if developers are saying Apple is responding to complaints then I think that's great. I don't agree with design by committee and don't think Apple should be designing based on random iOS user suggestions but it is good to hear that they are more responsive. Maybe that's also a result of Scott Forstall being out of the picture.

Don't forget: not every iPhone user is 20 years old with perfect vision. Some of us are grateful for options that help us avoid unnecessary eyestrain. That's why the "bold text" option is under "Accessibility."

+ 1 billion. Now that I have to wear reading glasses I envy the crap out of 20 year olds with their perfect vision. It's a pain in the ass. I'd rather lose a half a pinky finger than have to put up with reading glasses. So kiddles, don't read in the dark and get away from the keyboard every hour.

Could make us waste time cycling through the options trying to decide which one we like best. :p And it's also a good idea to avoid adding more options to Settings if possible, it's getting very cluttered as it is. Yes I know a text size option is already there, but it's buried in the Accessibility menu.

Which is not to say I'd personally mind having this type of font option -- while we are at it, why not let us pick from several type faces? I prefer the one in iOS 6, other people might like Times Roman or Georgia or even Comic Sans... :D

Lord LOL, trying to imagine what an iPhone would look like with Comic Sans... Would not be a pretty sight.

But yes, I think a 3rd option would be nice as well to bring back the beta 1&2 lighter font.

The real problem I think was that the bold option and the font size option in beta 1&2 did not apply throughout the whole OS, or so people complained. Because if it did apply to all the texts in the OS, then the people who liked the current default font could have just picked the bold/bigger font size option and be done with it.
