The crew at Improv Everywhere was invited to participate in a talk at TED, an annual conference in Long Beach, California that focuses on "Ideas Worth Sharing."

Charlie Todd explains the story behind the prank on Improv Everywhere's website:
For the conference this year, the TED curators approached me about staging something unexpected to surprise their audience. We had previously staged a musical prank at a conference, but I wanted to do something new and different for TED. I came up with the idea to have a fake speaker give a talk and make it seem like his big moment in the spotlight had been ruined by a computer crash. Apple users love to hate the notorious Spinning Beach Ball of Death. I started with that image and set out to heighten it to absurdity.

Only one word can sum this up: LOL

That made my day!

Instant classic!!! Everyone can relate to frustration associated with those error sounds and messages, let alone the extremely irritating spinning beach ball. Very creative to convert it into a musical/dance number!

This stuff happens to us every day at my university, though it only tends to happen on our PCs :D

Funny enough, that video skipped so many times on my MBA. Strange!

I bet any Apple employees in the audience were freaking out at first.

To be honest, I haven't seen a spinning beach ball since I upgraded my 2009 model MBP to 8 gigs. Coincidental? Maybe, maybe not.

Has anyone else noticed that the color on the beach ball does not spin??

Didn't notice this until you pointed it out. And I stare at that beach ball quite a bit!

Are you serious? You get dancers and music and everything every day?!?!?! I want to go to your university. :)

How is that load of toe curling cheese "An idea worth sharing" ?

I'd feel more inspired watching paint dry, to the point of cracking, and falling off the wall.

You missed the part where this is improve anywhere.

Here's their website. Try not to take them too seriously :p

Well, thanks.. I checked it out, and it seems to be "Improv" (as in "improvise") and "Everywhere" (as per thread title) Rather than Improve Anywhere.. Not that im trying to nit pick! I was just trying to research the point.

So.. Next week.. A talk gets quickly stalled by a BSOD, then a load of cackling penguins storm the stage?
Then, the audience leave, feeling somewhat bemused by what they have just witnessed, but do at least have a stuffed penguin to take home under their arm. Then they can all tweet their experience, happily ever after.

Yay.. Penguins! Yay! Lets Tweet! Just yay guys! Awesome!!!

Just the typical day of us Mac users.

Especially those of us involved in Graphic Design or Video Production.
