I have had zero Face ID failures since getting my X on launch day, until last night. It failed to unlock when I picked it up when I was watching TV. Turned out I had my hand over my mouth (was watching the exorcist tv show and it was getting a bit tense). HAHA

Nope. I’ve reset it only once. I’m not saying it fails when it’s at my face. But not every situation is like that. I could be laying down, reaching down to my phone, when it’s in the table and I’m sitting down...gotta use passcode.
Just not as effecient as TouchID. I’ve entered my passcode more often then I ever did on my 6S.

So, you get a mis-read, relock it then touch and swipe up.

Mine works great and I really like it. I loved my 6s and it performed great but this is a better phone. Funny, I had to do something on my wife's 8+ today and I had problem with the button and gestures

I’m finding it to be a great phone. Have had a couple of FaceID fails when I wasn’t close enough to it on my desk, but it really didn’t take that much extra time. After you get the shake shake ‘oh no you don’t ‘ error notification, just swipe up to unlock and it will then go into the FaceID again. No need to lock it , at least for me. Haven’t had to enter my password yet. Well, except after the iOS upgrade. Wireless is handy as well, one less cable hanging around. A much smoother experience all around.

After a few days I didn't even realize it was a new phone. Only thing really different is the lack of a button. Once you get used to that, it's just an iPhone.

Faceid works better over touchid worked for me. Less failures for me. On day 2 I reset face id and setup it up in non traditional angle so that i learns my face if im holding it by my waist level or flat on table. So far it works better. To me it works so fast I failed to realzied faceid already unlocked/enter my password.

I personally don’t have an issue with faceid. I expected to. But I don’t. When the phone isn’t in my hand I have it in a Nokia Qi charging stand. It allows me to look right st the phone with an added bonus of keeping the phone topped off effortlessly. FWIW I’ve akways used a stand st my desk, so this was actually made more convenient for me.

Keep in mind there are also people who can’t reliably use Touch ID. I realize this doesn’t matter much for those who can (and prefer it), but it is a reality. My mom has worn fingerprints and finds Touch ID useless. Faceid would be awesome for her. I also appreciate that Face ID doesn’t care if I’m sweaty; Touch ID was a pita I the gym.

Control center is a nuisance. I hope they change it. For now I’ve activated reachability. It’s a bandaid fix. But it works. I’m more annoyed by the toggles not being permanent though. That seems to be something that is unlikely to see any change.

The screen color shift at angles is noticeable. But I’m honestly not looking st the screen at an angle whenever I’m viewing content where color correctness matters even a little bit. I can read a text notification just fine. And when I delve in deeper in viewing at an angle that doesn’t cause any color distortion.

My biggest gripe is still price. I don’t know that it’s worth $200 more than the 8+ I’d have possibly gotten had I not gotten this.

The hardware is second to none, but I feel that Apple missed the boat on not doing something radical with iOS for this phone. Like another commenter said, after a few days, it’s just an iPhone. It’s the same version of iOS that, more or less, has been around for a while now. All of the messiness needs to be cleaned up and the bugs eradicated as much as reasonably possible, appreciating that bugs will always exist. Apple needs to take a chance and push boundaries on iOS with this new redesign.

Agree. Sick of the same old iOS, but then again if it aint broke....

There have been bugs persistent in iOS since at least iOS 8, maybe 7. Most of them that affect me have to do with the music app and iBooks backups.... my purchased books are backed up as if they are downloaded PDF's. In iOS 6 and prior, iCloud backup would mark the book as being on your device and sync bookmarks, but wouldn't actually back the book itself up, as it lived on Apple's servers.

Music syncing never works accurately for me. In older versions, syncing was near-flawless. Now, I end up with duplicate playlists that always need cleaned up when I edit playlists on my device, sometimes my tags don't show up correctly (songs display on iPhone with the Grouping name even though on iTunes, all files are tagged correctly).

It's still the best by far for me, and I love Apple Music, but I'm not putting my music library in the cloud since iTunes Match hosed my library years back. I prefer a local library and selectively downloading what I need. The idea of having a cloud-based iTunes library is great, but it hasn't worked for me, I rely too much on smart playlists and nested playlists.

The TV app is great for searching and content discovery, but its dog-slow if you just want to load up a local video. The whole point of storing things locally is for fast and easy access to it.

Overall, minor quibbles, but the iBooks issue is one I pointed out whenever I first discovered it and it still has not been fixed. My health data backup was huge once as well, haven't checked if that's been fixed or not.

*As for the actual question of the thread, it's a great phone. Gestures are becoming second-nature already and I enjoy a plus-Esque sized screen in a smaller form.

I am so over the look of iOS. It's so 2007.
