Thoughts on whether or not El Capitan will run okay on my ~2006 A1150 MBP?

Currently running 10.5.. I tried 10.6 when it first came out and didn't like it at all so went back and never changed.

I need to do a refresh as i'm about to gift the laptop - Curious what OS i should install..

The maximum OS the A1150 will support is 10.6.8. Your choice, reinstall 10.5 from the install disks that came with your MBP would be the cheapest or if you have the 10.6 DVD then that would be nice to install for them. You would need to give the original 10.5 disks AND the 10.6 disks to the new owner to be kind, because they may need them at some point in the future.

Snow Leopard (10.6) is much faster and better than 10.5, I don't exactly see what you wouldn't like about it as visually it carries next to no difference.

That is also the most recent version of OS X you can install.

My biggest issue with being stuck with SL is that no apps support it anymore. Everything i try to install from my collection that I'm running on 10.11 won't work. So for now, its a glorified web surfing machine until i can find old versions of apps.

It's true that apps don't support snow leopard anymore but thats because your computer is ten years old, you may not like it but the target lifespan for a laptop is 5 years you've doubled that. If you want to use modern software you have to buy a new computer thats just the nature of the beast....

Is there any way to force 10.11 on it anyway?? I know Apple doesn't support it - but i'd like to try and force it on anyway to try it out if possible..

I do not think so.
Here is a thread you could check out, but I have not read it since it is not needed by me.

Interesting stuff. Looks like my graphics chipset isn't compatible, that's a bummer.

Boot camp it is. Shame that i'll have to do more on Windows than OSX on this laptop. Disappointing.
