@Nhwhazup Hey! Repetitive question I know, but would you say the silicone case gathers a lot of dust and lint? And is it very difficult to take out of a jeans pocket for example? I wear Levi's Jeans 7 days a week lol.

After your guys feedback I've managed to remove some of my options and add others:

- UAG Civilian
- Caseology Parallax
- Nomad Brown Leather
- Apple Leather Case
- Apple Silicone Case
- Caudabe Sheath
I think at first the silicone does tend to collect some lint but after it gets used it gets less so. I put mine in a purse or my back jeans pocket with no issues

If you're a true minimalist, you'd go naked.

I will only ever buy cases made by Apple — yup, I'm drowning in Kool-Aid — but I've mostly had my iPhones as God intended: as naked as the day they were born.

And don't even get me started on screen protectors. They are the work of Satan. I will never, ever use one. Ever.

If you want minimalist, consider using a skin on the phone. I just ordered a clear skin from XtremeSkins for the iPhone 12 Pro Max in silver I have coming.

@Knowlege Bomb thank you for the pictures. That green one is pretty cool. I'm also very interested in the UAG Civilian in dark green, being that it's more protective than the Silicone case, and less prone to grab the lints and dusts of this life.

@Taz Mangus and @profmatt : I meant I'm minimalist on the sense of not buying 10 cases to use on 1 phone. Using the phone without a case or without a screen protector has nothing to do with minimalism, not in the sense where I relate to it. I'm still very clumsy and I need to protect it lol.

Yeah I really like using my phones naked but I also really enjoy watching a good leather case change over time.

And I’m 100% with you on screen protectors. I think they’re a scam and people waste money thinking they’re getting anything other than scratch protection for the screen. The one time I cracked a screen is also one of the few times I ever applied one. Causation vs. correlation and so on and so forth but it is awful suspicious...

I mean I don't feel like a tempered glass screen protector is going to protect my iphone from big falls or world war 3. But it definitely helps for example when i toss it in my glove compartment, on a backpack, around the desk with pens notebooks, and so on. If it wasn't for screen protectors my XR would have a pretty beat up screen. I've changed screen protector every 5 months or so.

Hello everyone,

I'm about to upgrade to the new iPhone 12. Been rocking a XR since launch currently out of warranty, battery at 79%, camera has dust inside it, cracked corner. Oh well, it was the most reliable phone I've ever had, I still love it to death but I've decided it's time to upgrade.

Over the years I collected like 15 cases for it: Adidas case, Mous wood case, fake silicon apple cases in a bunch of colors, clear cases, thin fit from spigen, some funky cases from aliexpress with patterns etc.

But in the last year I've been adopting a pretty minimalist approach regarding all my purchases (won't get into much detail but I've reduced my tech items in 90% for example). Therefore, I decided I would like to challenge myself into buying 1 case for the iPhone 12 and try to stick with it for minimum of 1 year or more! This will be a fun experiment and a good way to reduce unnecessary dispose of materials.

I'll be honest, I won't put a price tag on this case: I'll accept every recommendation dropped here regardless of price.

However, this are some considerations I already have thought of (feel free to argument them if need be):

- Clear cases, either good brand or off brand, always turn yellow and disgusting. Therefore I'm not considering them;
- I've only experienced the fake Silicon Apple cases from Ali, and those tend to turn to garbage so quickly. I'm not sure about the real deal, but I have the slight impression that the Silicon doesn't hold very well;
- No extremely thin or barely there cases... I still need a decent amount of protection.

I'll be pairing the case with a Spigen Glass screen protector.

My XR was black and I've decided to switch things up a bit this time around, I'm still struggling to decide between the white and the blue, mostly because the blue is a lot different from the 12Pro blue which I absolutely love.

Please let me know what you recommend. Let's play this like a "If you could only take one case for your iPhone to a desert island" kinda game :)

Happy New Year everybody!
I'm turning into you haha. In the past, probably back when I was in high school (2008), I started having an obsession for iPhone cases. I was really into making my iPhone 4, black — looking cool with the neon colors, the lace with fake pearl cases, the polymer clay/resin cases, etc. But then as I grew older I started to become more minimalistic with my cases. In college I started using Otterbox cases. My favorite case that Otterbox made for the iPhone X specifically was their statement case. The bottom half of their case is leather and the sides of the case were like a rubber grip. then the top half was a clear hard plastic. With that case I never experienced any yellowing on the clear portion of the case and I really loved that case and hoped they would make it again for the newer iPhones but they have not so I was bummed. I did use Moment case for the iPhone X but I didn't like it as much so I stayed with my Otterbox Statement. I had the iPhone 11 Pro last year and I used the Otterbox Vue. I liked the protection it offered but I was disappointed in how limited in colors they offered.

Currently for my iPhone 12, graphite I ordered the Apple Silicone Plum and Citrus Pink. It should arrive on Wednesday this week and I'm pretty excited! I think the color will look good with the graphite. I did look into Speck for my iPhone 12 Pro, but I just didn't like the look of their cases. Tech21 is a good brand too. My mother whose still rocking her iPhone X is using a Tech21 Evo Elite in pink. My father uses Pelican on his iPhone 11 Pro Max and he's a huge Pelican fan. He drops his phone constantly so the pelican cases has really protected his phone.

I didn't use a screen protector on my phones up till when I got into college really. I did a lot of traveling through my college years and felt like the screen protectors did offer a little bit more protection on my screens. I did a graphic design fellowship back in 2018-19 with Berkeley Repertory Theatre in California and my keys somehow punctured the screen while I had my phone and keys in my backpack — I was out taking photos (also a photographer haha) around San Francisco and somehow that happened but thankfully I had the screen protector on and it didn't hurt the screen itself on my iPhone X — I was a broke deaf, design fellow at the time and wouldn't be able to afford getting the screen fixed have I not had the screen protector on my phone. During the time I was saving my money for emergency uses for my Cochlear implants since I originally live in Ohio. But it's also a personal choice in my opinion.

I like the protection that a screen protector gives but most of all I like the feel of new oleophobic costing. I change mine up every 3 months or so.

Ok guys, I may or may not have lost a couple hours roaming through Youtube videos on the case options, and fortunately I managed to reduce my options. Please bare in mind that I've also had to take into consideration a couple of non-mentioned-before factors:

- Location (I'm in Portugal)
- Price (because of location some options turn extremely unreasonable in terms of importing)
- Looks (I still want to enjoy looking at the phone + case combo especially since I intend to keep the combo for more than 1 year)

For this reasons i've reduced my options to:

- UAG Civilian (30$) - I like the green and the blue one, both look great on white iPhone 12.
- Apple Leather Case (50$) - The Brown.. it's beautiful. I like the blue one but it's 100% sold out.
- Apple Silicone Case (40$) - Love the green olive.
- Caseology Parallax (15$) - Cheap, the green and blue look great, but I'm reticent on the quality.

If you like the patina that develops on the leather - definitely get the Apple brown leather.

After a long afternoon watching videos, I ended up ordering the UAG Civilian in dark green with those superb orange accents. Can't wait.

I decided on this over the Apple cases, just because of protection and duration of materials.

Thank you for all the feedback :)

Unrelated to cases, but still relevant enough for me to ask (but not to create a new thread):

Chargers. Is it fine if I continue on using my iPhone XR original charger?

Should I buy the 20W USB-C brick from Apple?

I mostly charge my iPhone during the night while I'm sleeping. I'm wondering if the 20W are worth it being that I don't necessarily need the fast charge, and mostly because I want to preserve the quality of the battery.

Any thoughts?

If you charge overnight i wouldn't bother. Slow overnight wireless charge kept my 11 pro at 100% after 13 months.

@Robbosan ha, I also have a Xiaomi wireless charger on my desk, was also wondering if the wireless charging, even slow one, would not damage the batteries over time.

So all in all, the most damaging for the battery would be the fast charging?

Cheers Taz, please make sure to watch our 'iPhone 12 Clear Skin' install guide on YT before applying as our Clear Skins require a 'wet' install. Thank you.

Most damaging to the battery is using the phone.
