I'm on Amazon right now, about to order the Apple MacBook Pro MB985LL/A 15.4-Inch Laptop. It's in my cart priced at 1839.09 shipped. Is that my best bet or are there cheaper places? I've never really made this big of an investment before and want to make sure it's my best source for the mbp.

Keep in mind that in many states you don't pay tax when ordering from Amazon. Apple seems to charge tax everywhere.

you believe? you mean your not sure what computer your about to spend nearly 2 grand on?
I bet it's the 2.66 w/ the 256mb Nvidia 9600GT... I was looking at this one for a while too.

It's really tempting, but I'd recommend you wait it out too... you'll regret the decision if they update in, say, 6 days. or 13 days. From that perspective, I'd buy from the Apple Store so you could return it for only a 10% restocking fee, but that's my opinion :)

I was only waiting for the update in case the current models discounted. But i have a feeling that even a discount won't be much better than the price on Amazon. I need the computer for school, and finals are April 14-18, and since never owning a Mac, I'd like to get some experience on them before using it for the final.

yes, but all I do on the computer is school work and itunes, and the occasional CSS:Source.
So? It's not about what you do, its getting the most for your money...

why would you give apple full price for old technology which they are probably getting for much cheaper. when you can wait a few weeks and get the latest technology for the same amount of money. Leave that for the uninformed consumer, you being on this forum sets you apart from the masses use that power.

I thought the update was going to be 3 weeks ago, 2 weeks ago, yesterday, and hoped for today. For all we know, it could be the end of March until these things update.

He clearly said that he doesn't need nor can to wait. So why are you trying to presuade him to wait for a new mbp which is making a lot of disappointed pple cos it's still not released and nobody know when it's going to be ?

Why not save some money and buy a refurbished model from Apple? Also, not sure if you pay sales tax on your Amazon purchases. If you do, you can also purchase Apple laptops from B&H Photo. No sales tax there on Internet purchases. B&H Photo is a very reputable retailer.

Today was the first day I saw any 15" in about 3-4 days on the refurb page. They were either 2.53ghz or anti-glare, which i'm looking for a 2.66 and glossy. I know i'm picky, but for the price, i should be. I've def been checking that page though and would rather go through Apple.

To the OP, some people suggested I was making a terrible mistake opening a 17" at Christmas. Others suggested that the machine was wonderful and open her up.

To tell you the truth, my 17" is fantastic and I have no regrets. If I had waited, I'd have lots of them. It's almost March.

just expressing my opinion on the matter. last time I checked thats why people asked questions on forums, in order to get different opinions and insights. he can choose to ignore it or adhere to it. Why does it bother you?
