i guess another question i have to help me decide...

Besides processor, what else are we expecting to come with the update? I thought it was simply the new processor

There are some posts around hear rumoring that it will look and ride like a Toyota Prius. Don't buy an old outdated MBP now the new one's are coming out in a couple of weeks already....no for real! They will have better processors, RAM, GPU's, possibly USB 3 (doubtful) and other goody's. All for the same price you are about to spend on inferior dated product!

Why does it bother you?
- his question was not about the upcomming release
- he does know there could be a release
- he cannot wait
- he doesn't need a newer technology

=> you are are trying to convince him using speculations as facts:

you can wait a few weeks and get the latest technology for the same amount of money.

that's bothering me.

If it's strictly a new processor, I doubt I'll type any faster or find a song on itunes any quicker. I don't do editing or photography. I just need a reliable computer with great battery life that I can occasionally play CSS on.

you are are trying to convince him using speculations as facts: that's bothering me.

You speak like they won't be out in the next few weeks...fact is they will be out by end of March which to many is....a few weeks! So take a chill it's an internet forum board it's made for opinions tiger.

do you have a site where it says definitely by the end of March? I haven't heard anything, but I've only been a member here for about 10 days now.

History says it shall be. But if you need a site...well you're on it!

New graphics cards with hopefully a little better resolution on the 15" at least, and more stock RAM. The two long-shot items seem to be USB 3.0 and BluRay.

I guess I can put the purchase on hold, it just seems like too much speculation on an exact date at the moment. I've been following 9to5, but it looks like they take most rumors off this site!

Welcome to the wonderful secret world of Apple. The exact date will always be speculation.

I think at the end of the day many around here have been in your shoes (including myself years ago) and we talked ourselves into not waiting and buying whatever the current inferior available Apple tech for that time was...only to be super bummed in a month or so when the latest and greatest beasts dropped - especially when you KNOW they are on the way. In short the old adage still rings true if you absolutely need your new computer now then buy it. If you don't wait a bit longer and you'll be glad you did.

I reckon if you have the money and it's going to be suitable for your needs then go for it.

I had the 2.4GHz model from the late 2008 update (so no built in battery and lower CPU speed, but otherwise pretty similar), and it was a fantastic machine. From what you say you want to use it for it should handle anything you throw at it admirably.

Yes there may be an update next month, however there's no concrete proof that is going to be the case. Everyone was saying it had to be February because of previous release schedules, and yet still no update. The longest stretch before an update was 266 days and it looks like we're about to surpass that mark.

End of the day it's a case of working out which is stronger, your need to have a notebook or wanting to wait to get the latest and greatest, however it's not like you're gonna be disappointed with a 2.66GHz MBP.

Quick question, you mentioned about being at school and having finals, have you looked into the educational discount? Sorry if it's dumb question but haven't been a student in many moons and have no idea how it works lol.

- His question was not about the upcoming release but if someone comes here and is about to buy something people usually inform them about impending updates so they can evaluate their decision. I'm not the first person to do that, how long have you been on these forums?

- Obviously you are wrong about that if you read carefully he can wait a little longer and if you read his last message he did indeed decide to wait

- I stated in my original post that its not about needing new technology but about getting the most for your money. and who doesnt want to get the most for their money?

- If you would get your head out of your a** you would realize along with any one else who has been reading or knows about Apple update schedule and history that updates are around the corner.

I Would Snag this.

http://store.apple.com/us/product/FC118LL/A?mco=MTA4MzQ4MTg

If your going wiht the old tecknology, and i'm not against it, for what you need its going to suit you, but the pump in procesory speed from the 2.53-2.66 ghz isn't very much. So i wouldn't may an extra 350$ for basicly a small CPU bump.

Oh an if you still want to spend extra money just get an SSD for it and it will make a much bigger difference than a cpu bump

The CPU bump may not be much, but you've only got the 9400M on that model no 9600, so that's a bit of a down step.

Why not save some money and buy a refurbished model from Apple? Also, not sure if you pay sales tax on your Amazon purchases. If you do, you can also purchase Apple laptops from B&H Photo. No sales tax there on Internet purchases. B&H Photo is a very reputable retailer.

Looks like Apple has limited stock on the Referbished devices.. not 13" that I can see...

just so you know, css source can be run on the 9400m pretty decently, which would save you $500. You probably wont be able to play many new games though , maybe starcraft 2 at low details.

I believe it's a 10% discount on new products.

I literally only play CSS on the computer. PS3 is where I do my gaming.
