about to return ATV4, unless I can figure out how to hit "subscribe" on YouTube?

Tomorrow is the last day that I can return the Apple TV 4 32gb back to the store for a full refund.

I love 99.9% about the ATV4. Unfortunately, there's also a 99.9% chance that I will return it. The *only* being that it doesn't seem possible to hit "subscribe" on the YouTube app.

I really hate to return it... so can someone please help me out and tell me how to do it? Or am I the only person who uses the YouTube app on ATV4? :(

I visit a channel page (by searching for it, in this instance), and at the top of that channel page is a 'Watch trailer' button (I guess if the channel has an intro video set up) and a 'Subscribe' button. That Subscribe button worked just fine for me.

The main difference I see is that you can't seem to visit a channel page directly from the video you're watching like you could with the Apple TV 3. I really hope that the YouTube people can fix and bring that back for the TV4 app. It's kind of a chore to have to exit out of the video you're watching and manually search for its channel page if you want to get to it.

This should really be posted on the google forum, as this is a "youtube app design issue" and has nothing to do with Apple TV 4 functionality per sa. Apple does not force app designers to update their apps. Since the youtube app was released many people have been complaining about how the youtube app has many features missing;

They had this same issue with the Apple TV 3 app, and eventually updated it. You can contact google/youtube through this form and ask them about the feature in question;

It's not mentioned in a lot of places so if you need to skip past an ad (after 5 seconds) you simply hold the right side of the touchpad.

Like most apps, I'm sure this one will get updated. It seems that a lot of app designers rush their app to market and then add the missing features later. That's all well and fine but IMO basic features should not be missing when a app is released, especially since google has more than enough resources to produce a proper app. Here is another thread about this topic;

wow... that thread is half a year ago and the problem was never solved or updated. guess I should return the ATV4 tomorrow and I'm sure Google/YouTube will fix it by the time Apple releases the ATV5. :)

like I said above, I'm returning ATV4 tomorrow.... Google will fix it when Apple release ATV5, so I'll just purchase it again at that time. :)

The best thing to do would be to send a feature request to google.

Currently using ATV3 for YouTube and it works PERFECTLY.

I have also purchased and returned the following:

(1)
Roku 4: many non-English languages not supported in YouTube(displays symbols or squares)

(2)
Amazon Fire TV(current version): subscription problem within YouTube app... many live YouTube videos can't be played

(3)
Playstation 3 and 4: many live YouTube videos can't be played or freeze up during playback

Like I said my old trusty ATV3 plays every YouTube video(including live ones) PERFECTLY.... so I guess I'll just have to stick with it, until Google fixes the problem with the YouTube app for ATV4? :)

Yeah google isn't as good as they used to be.

They should have addressed these basic issues a long time ago.

The subscribe button is automatically pre-selected so as soon as you visit a channel. Just click the Siri remote without doing anything else.

if I"m watching a YouTube video on the ATV4, how do I enter that video's channel?

on the ATV3, this is accomplished by simply hitting the pause key...

You can't. Google really has done a poor job with the YouTube app. They should be so ashamed. You also can't like a video on the tv 4. You could do it for a hot minute but then that ability was removed.
 
A lot of apps are riddled with bugs or weren't thought out too well. YouTube, how do you refresh the app without closing and reopening it? Major omission IMO.

Make sure you guys give appropriate feedback in the App Store. I can see why Apple was so hesitant to make an App Store for the ATV.

I've been making videos an emailing the devs in hope they would try to fix them if I have spare time.

Here is one for Hulu I just made....


Simply swiping right on a movie causes the app to crash.

that's what's so sad.... on my old ATV3, I can do that in less than 3 seconds. (just hit "pause" and scroll down to like or subscribe)

That's the only thing I miss about my tv 3. Google needs to get it together because it's only hurting YouTubers. I refuse to get one of my iOS devices launch YouTube, go to my history, and play the video I just finished watching on my tv just so I can like it. I'm lazy.

I've noticed this same bug. Just yesterday. I always watch tv on Hulu. But I decided to check out the movies on a whim. I was really worried about the App Store when it was announced. I like that  has such influence on the tv 3 apps. I was worried about the quality of the apps once the networks themselves were responsible for them. Have you checked out the AMC app? It doesn't look or behave like a tvOS app. I don't know why  approved it. Muggles will be confused by its behavior.

has anyone noticed if YouTube has updated the app on ATV4 to add the "subscribe" button yet?
