Whether it wastes battery life or not to cole out apps, I do it anyways. Typa A...cant stand something running in the backround.

You can buy a replacement battery for dirt cheap on eBay and it comes with the little screw drivers and such. I wouldn't want to pay 80 bucks for a battery that shouldn't even need to be replaced. Sorry! :(

Just an update for anyone who's interested...
Finally got an apple genius to look at my phone. They said it is only holding a 35% charge and that I can pay for them to swap out the battery.

I declined and said I'll manage until iphone 6 arrives. I'm now thinking of changing the battery myself and buying off of eBay as other people have suggested. Only thing I'm worried about is stripping the screws.

Is it a hard thing to do?

Nope. Lots of YouTube videos out there showing how.

I wouldn't change the battery yourself. If you damage the battery it'll catch fire. If a tech does it they replace the phone. You could also damage another component.
I'd suggest one of the mophie battery cases. They make it bulky, but you can get at least double the charge you're getting now.

I would never do it myself. I would go to a best buy or something and have someone do it for me. I dont want to break my phone in any way.

So 2 months after I created this thread my battery would barely last 10 mins, the home button stopped working and the screen started malfunctioning.

I went to apple yesterday and the very kind lady said although it's out of warranty I'll waive the £209 replacement fee and replace it for free!

Is there a way of leaving a staff member positive feedback with apple?

Ring the store manager?

I've had p*ss poor battery life on my i5 ever since installing iOS7. It regularly gave me 8.5-9.5 hours of use with iOS6, but even with ALL the new iOS7 features switched off (and most of the old ones) I was only getting four or five hours of use. I tried clean installs, setting up as a new phone and, finally, deleting my iCloud backup and starting afresh with zero apps. What a complete waste of my time that was. I saw no improvement whatsoever. My battery checked out fine when tested and in the end I just learned to live with it. My iPhone 5 + iOS7 = crap battery life.

Word what you say carefully in case she overstepped her bounds replacing it for you.

I've been burned by customers saying "and he replaced it at no charge!" when leaving what they thought would be good feedback. I've pretty much stopped helping people out at work because of it.

As above you may get the employee or his supervisor in trouble for breaking the rules if you say anything although I'm sure they have a certain amount of flexibility. Congrats with the outcome.
