But it's the fact they hook you into their infrastructure and OS then try and fob you off with low-grade expensive hardware.

Shameful

And even "knowing" all of that, you still stayed with them for so long and purchased all of that hardware.

If you think this is overpriced, then I suppose you think it won't sell. Would you care to estimate how many months before Apple can satisfy demand for the iPad Mini? I'm guessing it will immediately sell out and it will stay on backorder with slow shipping times for at least two months.

The price is fine. It is frankly much less than the cost of LTE connection for a year. You can buy it at this price and two years from now sell it on ebay for $100 at least. At the price, Apple will sell every single mini they can make as fast as they can make them. It will take two months before they are even able roll the sales out to the entire world, even though their role is going to be very good this time.

... and that makes the overpriced old hardware right? I think not.

The competition is set to overtake apple swiftly now. I'd sell up your stock soon.

Don't worry, the iPad mini 2 with retina will probably be released in 4 months for the same price.

The iPad mini has the same number of pixels as the iPad 2 but compressed into less space. So it is already approaching retina level. It isn't retina, but it should be tough to see those pixels.

But an A5 processor?

I'd love to know what the component costs are of the mini. Anyone got an idea?

So let me get this straight...All of the Apple products you mentioned are hundreds, if not thousand(s) of dollars more than an iPad Mini and you're complaining about spending $329? There's a reason why you've been using Macs over PCs for so long. So go to Android and get the Nexus 7 and we will see you back here in a few weeks talking about how you couldnt stand using the Android OS.

Is Apple holding a gun to your head and commanding you to upgrade? I've been in their infrastructure for years and guess what, my iPad 2 still works great.

I'd love to know what the component costs are of the mini. Anyone got an idea?
Why? Component costs never account for all the additional costs of bringing a new product to market.

I'm glad your iPad 2 still works fine. It's a great piece of REASONABLY PRICED tech.

It's the iPad mini I take issue with.

Rip-off.

Not a charity... but maybe just a 21st century snake oil seller?

It's a capitalist society, it comes down to if people are dumb enough to buy it in droves why wouldn't they keep the snake oil coming? The goal is to make money, the problem is people are dumb enough to keep sending them money in situations like this.

I was really excited for an iPad mini with LTE to compliment my iPad 3. (retina wasn't a HUGE deal for me) but for $460 for a mini iPad, no thanks I'll keep my money.

I see pixels on the Nook Tablet with comparable PPI. Better than the iPad 2, absolutely. But anyone saying near retina is kidding themselves or in denial. I don't see how Apple can magic that away (and I would prefer a Mini to the full iPad so wish they could).
