Hello,

I'm very new to this iPhone jailbreaking stuff. I have tried pretty much everything i found on the net including apps, tips and tricks, yet nothing works. Here's the deal:

I bought a second hand iphone from this person. It's a 3G 16GB black one. It worked OK without a sim. Then of course, i put in my own sim which is isn't an official supported sim card (as itunes says so). Now i can't get passed the emergency call screen when the iphone is booted. After all my failed attempts, i'm beginning to wonder if it is possible to jailbreak my iPhone? The only thing i can do right now is restore to 3.0 through itunes after putting it in DFU and playing around in the emergency call screen.

Can i jailbreak my iphone in this situation? Does my sim need to be in the iphone or doesn't it?

Redsnow is just waiting for reboot, for the past 45 minutes. Unplugging it and plugging it back in didn't work. USB hub didn't work, .. I tried everything. I even tried redsnow for windows on another pc, didn't work either. I tried ziphone: gave an error. I tried pwnagetool: seemed to work but when it tells me to go in DFU, it's got it all wrong. The first step is to seemingly connect the iphone. I do that, but it doesn't go to the next step (turn off iphone). If i play around with it, pretending to be off, and holding the home & power button it looks like it's going to work until i get the error that DFU failed.

I don't know what's wrong? How come's nothing working here? :s
Help!

I think I have the same problem. My iPhone 3GS is not jailbroken and is fairly new. I use it quite a lot during the day but I've found that I have to put it into Flight Mode when I'm not using it to help save some power.

Apart from that: it could be because of irregular charging cycles (Like me).
You should let your battery die before charging it might help but probably with unnoticeable results.

:)
Erhm. Why buy an iPhone if you use it as one way communication? Normal people keep their phone on, so people can call them too ;)

From my knowledge on Li-ion batteries, it does not damage the battery to not do a full charge, quite the opposite. To keep the battery in "shape" you should just do a full charge once a month (even stated by Apple, if I remember correct).

The thing that might be messed up is the percentage counter. The battery itself does not change performance over night.

@ Steven: Ooh! Now i get it :) I'd be mad too if i would be thinking the same thing what you are thinking! That's my previous iphone and i DID buy that from a friend. Believe it or not, i lost it. They are certainly two different phones. I don't get why you are being so mad? Do i need to explain my whole life to you? That's none of your business. I'm just asking for battery life help.

it's normal. while downloading the material the processor is filling up the screen with the map images. that takes a lot of juice. all smartphones with a screen that size and a processor like that will kill the battery fast. android phones are just the same.

Anything you post in my business. And everyone elses business too. If you don't want to hear about it, don't post about it.

@ damnyooneek

Thanks for the answer. But it's not only maps. Just using wifi is a tremendous hit on the battery. It didn't used to be like this; i guess i'll have to start deleting apps i'm not sure of.

@ Steven: ok then, forget i ever mentioned how i got my iPhone. It's about the battery.

Well, technically, you should have found the rightful owner of that battery too but I think we can agree to disagree. Enjoy the phone. I'm off to another thread......there's this dude who took a laptop from a friend who thought it was beyond repair but he knew he could easily fix it. He's gloating that his friend gave up a perfectlly good computer. What a dick, right?

So, right now, i'm not using wifi, edge, 3G, push mail/notifications, location or anything. It's just in standby. In one hour it went to 95% without using it. That can't be normal?
