Hi. Is it possible to move a specific Mail account to a external hard drive? The mail account is not is use anymore and is around 200GB large – way too large to have on the laptop. I need to have access to the account, searching for past correspondence and attachments.

Thanks for any good ideas.

I don't believe it's possible to do that…not even moving all email accounts to an external.

I think you should probably look for a good email archiving application with excellent searching capabilities. I don't have one to recommend.

I've been a beta-tester in the past and currently full-time user of Mail Archiver X.

I like it because it just works and easy to search for emails archived from decades ago - my oldest emails are from 1998. As I do research, I constantly need to access old emails, so the search function is crucial to my workflow.

With today's small internal storage options, it's been great to 'offload' hundreds of gigabytes of emails to an external drive instead of paying eye-watering amounts to get increased storage - especially on a MacBook.

Also, if I ever decided to move to other software I can export in multiple formats - so not locked into the whims of a developer.
