I just received this message from Apple. They've clearly flagged me as a member of the Retro-Rebellion!

Dear Daniel,

On 30 June 2018, Apple will implement changes to continue to ensure your financial data is protected when you make purchases on the iTunes Store or App Store.

Our records show that you may be accessing the store from an older version of iOS, macOS or Apple TV software:

iOS 4.3.5 or earlier
macOS 10.8.5 or earlier
Apple TV Software 4.4.4 or earlier

To be able to change your payment information with devices running the software listed above, you'll need to update to a more recent software version.

Learn More.

Regards,

iTunes Support Team

So, we won't be able to update our credit card details on a pre-Mountain Lion Mac? This would be the first time Apple have ever notified me of feature loss due to running older software. Normally things just silently stop working. How thoughtful. Thanks Apple!

i don't understand 2018 emails from humans anymore.
I thinks this means we need Highest or a even higher sierra to buy apps from the apps store.
maybe i could be wrong tho.........
who knows?

so I'm downloading all my OS X that built my macs: loin and Mountain loin onto an external HD incase the MBAir or MINI can't through the applestore or command "certain key" if i do purchase newer HDs for these computers. I will make USBthunb drives.

I really really hopes this means i cannot use that feeble app store, nothing new excites me or can be used to help my computing productivity. Personally I'm happy, i want to cut a chord between apple and my computers because i don't trust there recent upgrades and they way this regime wants me to but new items every October.

every day apple disappoints me by their arrogant "progress" which is just getting al of their users to be one demential.

And that is why I jumped ship in April.

I believe I'd be speaking on behalf of the community when I say to you that the arms of Linux are always open to you and everyone else.

So far, I'm having a great time. GNOME 3 (desktop environment) is like navigating underwater, and everything else is just like ice cream flavors. So many to choose from, but all delicious. And the support + user-base is only growing, never dropping.

Absolutely true! Though I prefer the MATE Desktop Environment (based on Gnome 2) for it being more customizable. But for my 'Books I prefer Leopard and Tiger

Front-page thread already for this:

Seems like everyone is getting this email. Guessing that if you ever bought something from iTunes/App Store in the olden days, you get the mail. I got the email this morning, and I am on iOS 11 and macOS 10.11, had an iPad at iOS 9, so, all my devices were/are under support for purchasing.

It could have been a lot worse, given the usual behavior of Apple in the Cook era. I guess we should feel fortunate that they didn't intentionally disable the iTunes Store and iTunes Match in iTunes 10.6.3 (which still work under Leopard).

I actually think this is a good compromise between security concerns of older systems and not going out of their way to completely disable them.

This is just the beginning, as soon as they follow the industry standards and implement only newer TLS versions, we are locked out on older devices

All of this is really a non-issue for me. I had nothing but PowerPC Macs when Apple launched the iPhone 5 so I was never able to sync with that phone.

All my music has been acquired elsewhere, I've never used iTunes Match and the only thing I use iTunes for now is music playback. If I have to sync an iPhone there is my Windows 7 Thinkpad or the Mac Pro at work.

My biggest issue with iTunes lies not with Apple, but with Google. In the last few years they have systematically upgraded their systems and cut off Music Manager so that it no longer uploads music from iTunes on PowerPC Macs and no longer works on my single Snow Leopard MBP. I've been forced to move my entire library to my Win7 PC for Music Manager to function.

I was an early beta invite to Google Music so that's where all my music is and the biggest reason why I don't do iTunes Match.

All of this has resulted in a second copy of my iTunes library being stored on my G3 server and iTunes 4.0 being used to access it from all my PowerPC Macs AND because of Rosetta it works on my MBP. Since music is all I am concerned with and since you can still stream internet radio using iTunes 4.0 AND because 4.0 is the only version that works over the internet I have access to my music either through Google Play or iTunes on any device no matter where I am.
